So I talked with the people at flex. In order to keep grant money you have to do 6 months of the program. That's $4500, if you're a WI resident $1800 is covered by state grants, I was told I would get the full $5775 in pell grants. He said most people earn over 12 credits per 3 month subscription, the recorded being 32. I asked about materials, he said most of it is OCW from other schools and that the books they do use are purposefully the cheapest they could find that cover the course work and that a lot of the reading could be done for free online. They will take CLEP test as previously earned credit but they can not be applied to your flex degree while your in the program. Also most of the assessments have practice quizzes so you can gauge where you are.
I'm new to this so I'm not sure how good a deal it is. I don't see another way to take advantage of the state grants, the way wi has it set up you have to be enrolled in a degree plan to qualify for any aid.
I have to take a placement test and I can't start till October because you have to apply one full month before the first of the month that you want to start.
Anyone have any thoughts?
