TESC BA English - most efficient plan?
#6
cavelady Wrote:Anyone know how many of these course requirements I could test out of or complete somewhere else faster/cheaper?
Thomas Edison State College: English

(Already very educated in this field.)

I assume many, if not all, of the gen ed. Anything else?

Thank you!

Hi there, welcome aboard!

You will a lot of information on testing out of general education requirements here on the forum so I won't get too much into that. However, getting those upper level humanities credits is where there are fewer options so that's what I will focus on.

Since you are already educated/experienced in this field, I recommend looking at TESC's portfolio process that was mentioned by swalke321. As someone who has experience and is comfortable writing papers, this is a great low-cost option. In the event that you are a blogger, an author (unpublished or not), that would be the type of documentation you can use in a portfolio. I am neither but used my book club moderation and community teaching of language through literature experience as part of my Latin American literature portfolio. One cool thing about portfolios is the pricing. You can complete PLA-100 and PLA-200 for free without any credit but as a guide to completing portfolios at TESC. And TESC only charges $353 for 12 portfolio credits which are counted toward your residency if you happen to choose per-credit tuition plan. For me, completing the actual portfolio was a fun and rewarding experience.

NCCRS and ACE approve courses for college credit and those are also accepted by TESC. I notice that GREAT BOOKS ACADEMY HOMEPAGE – ACE College Credit has ACE-approved courses but don't know the specific process for getting credit. Also, Coopersmith Career Consulting has NCCRS-approved exams in English. If you are interested, you can create an account with Torah College Credits and request the outlines and study guides for those exams.
Associate in Arts - Thomas Edison State University
Bachelor of Arts in Humanities - Thomas Edison State University
pursuing Master's degree, Applied Linguistics - Universidad Antonio de Nebrija
