I hardly visit this forum anymore, but for anyone who remembers me, I got a promotion. I am now a Production Control Specialist. I have my own little cubicle now, and I do all the scheduling for the production department where I used to work. I got a decent raise. (I'm about 50% above starting rate of pay now.) I no longer have to work in the manufacturing part, wear safety gear, or work overtime unless I want to. I really like it so far.
A soon as I found out I got the job, I signed up at my local cc to get my MS Excel certification and started an Intro. to Logistics class. I know a lot of people here poo-poo taking cc classes after obtaining a baccalaureate, but I'm finding it helpful for my new position, and I like the structure of it to keep me motivated. I intend to keep taking classes in supply chain management and logistics for as long as it continues to be interesting and helpful.
I do think my B.S. helped me to get this job, combined with my work experience. The first thing they look at, though, is attendance. All applicants who were over a certain number of days absent weren't even interviewed. So just keep that in mind, I guess, if anyone wants to move up in manufacturing. Perfect attendance helps!
