Not sure about the uexcel because I've never taken one, but I can recommend the following courses/exam.
Penn Foster's Business & Technical Writing course which also transfers as ENG-216. It looks like the individual courses are now priced at $237 (was $270 in 2010). This non-proctored course consists of 2 M/C quizzes and 3 written assignments. The final is a culmination of the WA's assembled into a short business proposal and uploaded online for grading. One of the easiest courses I've taken.
Straighterline Business Communications (TESC COM-300) was also very easy but it had a lot more work: 15 quizzes, midterm and proctored final along with 3 written assignments/project. Cost $150. This U/L course can also be used in the area of study (management) or as a business elective. A used copy of the book is currently $5 at amazon.
If you also take DSST ENG-201 there is lots of subject overlap and it can be used as a gen ed/humanities elective. After either of these courses you could take the DSST exam with no further study.
