I don't think it's that med schools are "old school" as much as they are inundated by applicants who have rock-solid traditional education with 4.0 GPAs from top-notch colleges. Let's add in the letters of recommendation from other MDs/DOs who may be long-standing respected members of the medical profession, and kick-butt MCAT scores. Of "that group" they're still only accepting about 20% of the pool.
