mrobinson,
CLEP cost $80 plus whatever you testing center charges per exam. My local CC charges $20, so I pay $100 per CLEP. When I take them, I have the scores sent to Excelsior. When I first enrolled at Excelsior, I paid the College Board $20 to forward a transcipt that contained all of the CLEPs I had taken previously.
I paid for my registration through a payment plan which spread my $780 veteran's enrollement fee over 6 months.
I will only take information literacy and the capstone at Excelsior for a total of four credits. The rest of my credits will likely come from BYU Extension, CSU-Pueblo independent study, or University of Idaho independent study. They are all cheaper than the $380 per credit that Excelsior wants for classes. Fort Hays is also a veteran friendly school and they charge less than $200 per credit. Fort Hays will transfer in 65 credits and you would be able to use your FAFSA with them.
