Straighterline CLEP overlap?

Excelsior is very picky about what it will accept for Comp II. You can take the ECE to get credit for Comp I and II. The test is also $415. It almost makes me wonder if Excelsior is trying to force students to take the ECE over other non-traditional options. Hmmm.

I think you may be right. According to their A Student Guide to Credit by Examination at Excelsior College, the CLEP is worth 6 credits but doesn't fulfill their writing requirement (look under "CLEP Exams" and on p. 24, footnote #4 of linked pdf). That makes me wonder that if 3 of the credits from the CLEP count as English I what do the last 3 count as?

Here are some possibilities for OP to check on with Excelsior for English II:

1. DSST Technical Writing exam. Cost of about $100 which includes proctor fee.
2. Saylor.org BUS210 Corporate Communication course. Max cost of $50 for proctor fee.
3. Penn Foster English Composition. Costs about $250-300. This may only count as English I, however, so look and see if there is another course at PF that may work.
4. Propero English Composition II. Cost is $299 and this appears to have a format like Straighterline.
5. KCTCS English II. Cost is $484.05, but you won't have to worry about a proctored exam.
6. One of the community colleges online like Clovis or New Mexico Junior College. Cost varies but should be about $300.

Not sure which of these will work so that's why the OP should check with Excelsior first, but one of them should do the trick and may be cheaper than the EC course or the ECE.
