Wow... I did not know that GPU's were that powerful in terms of math, but I guess it makes sense since 3D rendering is basically just calculating vast amounts of geometry and light-ray interactions.
Like I said though, it's not the biggest monster rig; here's the components I bought...
-Core i5 3570k Ivy Bridge with Unlocked Multipler; stock 3.4GHZ with 3.8GHz turbo, overclocks fairly easily to 4.4GHz from what I hear. One of the reviews that convinced me to buy it said, "This thing is an absolute monster....nothing more to say. If you are a gamer, save the money and go with this over the i7."
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K
-8GB DDR3 G.SKILL Ripjaws RAM (2 4GB sticks); mixed reviews, but it's working great so far. On sale it was like $29 with warranty, so I can't complain either way I guess.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
-Motherboard: Typical mainstream LGA 1155 Micro ATX by Gigabyte. Nothing special, but it was about $48 on sale, so once again I can't complain. Maybe one day I'll swap it out for an SLI-ready model when it's upgrade time.
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-H61MA-D3V LGA 1155 Intel H61 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
-PSU: COOLER MASTER Elite 460w. $26 on sale. Probably my weakest component, and I've been getting more and more worried that it won't be able to handle a GeForce 560 TI. It's got a PCIe x16 connector and a safety overload prevention feature, so hopefully it can handle a decent GPU.
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Elite 460 RS-460-PSAR-I3 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply
hmuchmo1, is that enough power for one PCIe x16 video card if I have no other PCIe cards plugged in? I've never really been clear on how to calculate that O.o
