A guy I know had a weight problem for many years and lost it all on p90x and built muscle too.
I have never used it. I do my own high intensity workout focused on building muscle in a short time frame. I can do a chest or biceps workout or any body part in about ten minutes.
I do one exercise for the body part, such as bench press for chest. Do a warmup or two being careful not to pre exhaust the muscle. Then do a heavy set to failure with about ten reps. Then sit for thirty five seconds and do it again. Take another thirty five seconds rest and repeat this for four mini sets and you are done with chest.
Your reps will probably look like 10,6,4,3 as there's is minimal time to recover.
The important thing is that you must have 100% intensity and go to positive failure each mini set or you will be cheating yourself out of a great workout.
As you get stronger you will be able to do more reps, so just increase the weight to keep the reps in the right range.
