Hello everyone.
I'm taking Managerial Communications Guided Study at TESC right now. I don't have a lot of experience with writing and citing sources and other materials. All of the papers are supposed to be cited in APA formate.
Ok, here is where my confusion begins. My mentor says, directly quoting her words here, that when I cite I should, "indicate that you did by a footnote or endnote, or other accepted method at the point of inclusion, and then the source must be listed in the final page, a bibliography or works cited page". Well I've been using endnotes (not footnotes) and citing within the text using numbers or other citing symbols. Do I need to add an extra bibliography page besides the endnotes page? I'm totally confused about whether or not I'm doing it correctly. I've emailed her once about it, but most replies are vague and ambiguous. My grade is hovering at about 90%, so I'm not doing too bad (for my weakest subject and the most despised :reddevil: ). The citing stuff is really bugging me.
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated. Maybe if someone just fully describes how the reference, works sited, bibliography etc. stuff works, then I'll get it. Also, how to you cite a website with now author in APA (such as this one China: Chinese Culture, Etiquette, Customs, Manners and Protocol).
Thanks everyone.

Ugh.. APA Citation is so scary. I was just complaining about it in another thread and got a few really good answers. Check it out:

To site a website, I think you have to list like this:

Double check though... I'm still learning and haven't read through all of my info yet.

Wow you are quick. I just responded to you in another topic area . Thanks for the info. I had actually downloaded the link that purpleteen posted. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Maybe I should hire a personal editor :p . (Ok serious again) Any other help that anyone has would be appreciated. My biggest issue is how to do the bibliography, reference sited stuff.

Hmmm... maybe I should spend less time on the forum and more time working. :p Lol... ok in all fairness, I am working. As part of my day, I have been calling clients. No one is answering, so I am reading threads as I leave messages.

I have written 6 APA style papers in the past two weeks.
It scared the crap out of me at first but now I have the hang of it.
The trick to APA is to always paraphrase so that you don't need to include the page number.
For example.
The rise in suicide rates can be attributed to using facebook (Smith & Jones, 2008).
or
According to a study done by Smith and Jones (2008), the rise in suicide rates can be attributed to using facebook.
or
Smith and Jones state that, "Our studies show that the rate of suicide has increased dramatically in the past two years and has a positive and direct correlation to the subjects use of facebook" (p. 114).
Use zotero to create your bibliography. Just add a page to the end of your document titled "Works Cited" or "References" and list your references single spaced and indented .5 inch after the first line. Zotero is a free plugin you can download and install in Firefox and it will create notecards out of journal articles or web pages you cite. You can then click button in Word to put the item in your bibliography.
At ncu they use ProQuest - Central To Research Around The World to allow access to scholarly journals. Each journal article has a "cite this" button which shows a popup wherein you select the appropriate style, like APA rev 6. It creates a perfect citation for you which you can paste into your References page. Here is an example of one of proquests citations.
Bowie, N. E. (1998). A kantian theory of capitalism. Ruffin Series in Business Ethics, , 37. Retrieved from Log in - ProQuest - ProQuest
I have this stuff nailed down now. It just takes practice and the use of cool tools like proquest and zotero.

If you Microsoft Word 2007 or 2010, click on the References tab. The middle section has Bibliography and Citation tools...you can choose APA as the style.
Once you add a source to "Manage Sources", it's there forever and if you ever need to use it again, it's available. There are lots of video tutorials on youtube about this.

Thanks SandraNC but I have Word 2002.
ryoder can I input a book's info into zotero and have it put the stuff in the right formate?
I'm guessing the best thing to do is a in-text cite with a bibliography at the end. Should I also use the footnote or endnote feature?
Thanks you guys, you have been a great help.
