kester22 Wrote:Have you got any words of wisdom for English Comp II (I see you completed it Smile So far the few tests I've taken have been ok. I'm just not seeing the correlation between the course and the graded tests. I'm only on test 3 so far, so its hard to tell.

As you've probably learned from English Composition I, there's no reason to rush the tests as each paper is only graded out of 21. Not sure if the structure is still the same, though.

When I did it, there was a big test on the set text, so that's worth being properly prepared for.

Otherwise, the papers flow a little better with more emphasis on content. So, I would recommend maintaining/adapting the standard 5 paragraph 'intro(thesis statement123, para1, para2, para3, conclusion(thesis statement)' structure and use smarthinking to iron out grammar/word choice/transitions to give a paper a bit more shine. Otherwise, I enjoyed English Composition II much more than the first one, even though the first one was more instructive.

Hope you enjoy it Smile

Great job!!

I must say that there is inconsistant grading and assessment of the eng comp eassignments. I am finishing up comp1 now and have serious doubts about some of the assessors.

I submitted 3 essays, 1=16, 2=17, 3=14. The 16 & 17, no big deal but a 14???

My neightbor is an upper level english and language professor and evaluated all 3 before submission. He said I had a talent and was writing on an advanced level and would far exceed the standards they were looking for. This totally suprosed e as I never took myself for any knid of a writer. In saying this, how do I go from having talent to getting such a low score.

Not to mention, the smartthinking assessors had typos on their own markups, I mean WTH? Of course most of the various coments were inconsistent with the previous assessors comments as well.

This is a great way to get cheap credits and they are generally quick with getting the assessments back to you, but I definitely question the quality of some of the assessors.

Im in straighterline Biz communications and I have been waiting 4 days for a grade for the first writing assignment. I am going to contact them tommorrow because I am holding the second assignment because I wanted to see the grade on the first one.
I submitted my first written graded assignment yesterday and my second graded assignment this morning for the business communications course. I have also not received any response from them. I am waiting to submit my third and final written assignment (the short report) because I want to see whether they graded my first two assignments austerely, leniently, or fairly. My grades on the first two assignments will dictate the amount of time I will put into the last paper.

Received assignment 1 back and it pushes me over the line with a 96 so just want the other two graded as quickly as possible now. Three working days to grade so not too bad.

I do have a big 100 pt test for the set text. Do you recall how the questions were. Basically, does it cover what was already on the quizzes for the text or is it the reason they encourage the use of filling out the set text study guides for each section. I want to tackle this thing this weekend but I'm afraid of the questions its going to ask. I am even considering watching the 1994 movie version to see if that will help me any. Any tips on what will help the most?

Watching the movie isn't gonna help ( at least it didn't for me).
Not sure they have offer different tests.

Well it helped a little. I watched it earlier and then read the summaries of each chapter on the cliff notes website. The movie is off a bit but I read the summaries the hour after watching the movie a few minutes ago. I also took the quiz on sparknotes and did pretty well. I think I have a good grasp on everything now. I'm going to attempt this sucker after dinner.....hopefully it will go well, I really don't want to take this class again.

I did get 2 of my essays graded today, I got a 16 and a 20 so far. A little upset over the score of 16 because it was the best one I had sent in. But thankfully the 20 made up a little of the points. I'm just hoping to get a pass thru ace on this class..... My average right now is in the 80's but I still have the 100pt test and 5 essays to do. So far I have 156 of 188 points. There is 105 points left for the essays and 100 for the exam. As long as I get 120 of the the remaining 205.....I'll pass. Yes I did the math point by point....a little scary.

Bwahaha I've had the same experiences; I started out mulling over papers for accuracy, grammatical perfection, smooth transitions, etc.

None of them got 100's.

Then I started cranking them out in 1-2 hours. Hello upper 90's. Don't ask?

Hey I'm happy.

But it does make me think: I can't wait to get done with my schooling so I can start my education. What is this hoop-jumping number game?

Well I gritted my teeth and took the test, scared of the 5pts each though at first. I got a 90 on it. I have 5 essays left now and thats 105 possible points. I submitted 2 for review today before final grading submission, I'd like to hope I could rack up 30 pts on just those two and then I can not worry about the last 3, which is the hardest ones I was putting off.

This nightmare is almost over for me and English Comp II. Sorry for the thread taking a wrong turn. It has become a personal journey of the torture of SL English Comp II for me. Although it feels good to have a place to vent. hilarious

I received grades on the first two written assignments this evening (99/100 and 97/100, respectively). Since I submitted the first paper on March 1st and the second paper on March 2nd, it took three to four business days for my assignments to be graded. The high scores on these two papers have pushed me well over the line, so now I am relieved that I don't have to work as hard on the last paper.
