I am planning to take the test for American gov't very soon. I know all of the instantcert questions (score around 97%) and I took the 3 practice peterson tests and scored 54, 54 and 57.. I am confused on why I would be getting 100% on instantcerts questions and so low on the peterson tests?????? Which one of these is more accurate towards what I should expect on the test?
And is instantcert enough to pass this test alone? I have read another thread where someone said it is not.. But Instantcert says it is.. any advice???
PS: Does anyone know where I can find the 50 free practice questions for american government that college board gives out? I remember seeing a link on some thread in this forum, but now I cannot find it..
Thanks so much for your help!

The flashcards are not questions per se, but factual information memory tools. The Petersons exams are ALWAYS more difficult than the real thing. Your scores indicate to me that you are ready - Good Luck!!

I was able to pass American Government with a 69. I think Instacert in conjuction with Cliff Notes should allow you to pass comfortably.

I am taking the American Government test tomorrow. I used InstantCert along with cliffs notes and a Sparks Chart. I do not score quite as well as you on the InstantCert questions, but I am scoring in the mid 70s on the Petersons tests. Remember the key is to actually understand what the InstantCert flashcards are teaching, if you are just memorizing the answers to the cards it will not be nearly as effective.

I took mine on friday and it was very easy. The entire test is very simple with a lot of charts and so forth.. Basically if you can read, you can get 70% of the questions correct.. Although, I was surprised with the score I got.. I only scored 82, so maybe it was not as easy as I thought.. But it sure felt easy
Good luck to you!

82?! The max score should be 80... or are you saying you scored in the 82nd percentile?

How does that work? If I understand correctly there are 100 questions broken into two seperate 50 question sections. How do they get from 100 questions to a maximum score of 80? I know I need a 50 pass, does this mean that I need a score of 50/80? Or approximately a 62.5% correct rate?

It's a weighted score. The number you need to get right to pass varies from test to test.
If you do a search, I believe there's some extensive discussion on exactly what the score means, although there is no way of knowing exactly how many you need to get right to pass...

I got a 65 on my American Government test today. I can safely say that the information contained in the flashcards is more than sufficient to get a passing grade on the American Government. I will advise anyone who is taking this test to take all three Peterson's tests because they are VERY similar to the questions you will face on the actual test. As a matter of fact I specifically remember 5-7 questions that were pretty much word for word from the Peterson's test. And familiarize yourself with the type of questions where you have to interpret a chart or graph, there are a number of those on the exam.
Thanks InstantCert, you made studying for my American Government test much easier.
