I'm currently planning on getting a History BA from TESC. I'm pretty sure I've finished all my gen. ed. requirements. Attached is a document that I was sent, changed, and am now using to kind of guide me through the second half of my testing plans.

.doc   Less than 1 minute ago">Personalized Degree Plan _1.doc (Size: 72.5 KB / Downloads: 15)

What do y'all think? Does it seem to jive with the TESC requirements? And, while I have the floor, is there a capstone requirement with TESC? If so, what exactly does that mean? Finally, where are the cheapest, fastest, and easiest online courses? As you can see, I lack 12 upper level, area of study credits, and I have no idea where to get them from. I suppose I can always take a couple courses from TESC, but if someone already knows of easy and fast courses from elsewhere, I'd much appreciate the info!

Thanks!
~ Laura ~

Hi,
I am also going for a BA in History at TESC.
Looking at your degree plan, I am assuming that TESC is no longer using US History 1 & 2 as part of the concentration? If that is the case, I think I was grandfathered in then. If US History 1 & 2 is still a part of the concentration, then my approved degree plan can be used to help you out.
Keep in mind that currently 18 of the 33 SH needed have to be 300-400 level.

My evaluation and concentration looks like this:
A: Complete one full year of Survey of Western Civilization
> OR one full year of World History.
3 SH HIS-101 Western Civ 1 CLEP
3 SH HIS-102 Western Civ 2 CLEP

B: Complete one full year of American History.
3 SH HIS-113 US History 1 CLEP
3 SH HIS-114 US History 2 CLEP

C: Complete one Non-Western/Non-U.S. History course
3 SH HIS-386 Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union DSST

D: Complete 18 semester hours of History Department courses
6 SH HIS-356 War and American Society TESC Course
3 SH HIS-252 Civil War and Reconstruction DSST
3 SH HIS-351 History of the Vietnam War DSST

I still need to take these to finish up:
3 SH HIS-222 Western Europe Since 1945 DSST
3 SH HIS-309 Intro to Modern Midle East DSST
or
3 SH HIS-399 World Conflicts since 1900 ECE
All of these have been blessed off by TESC.

There is no capstone requirement at TESC. For upper-level courses look at LSU and BYU, and for additional credit by exam possibilities, Ohio University.

I you are planning to take a course from TESC, I highly recommend taking HIS-356 War and American Society. It is 6 SH that you can knock out right there. It has 8 books that you need for the course but I got away with only using one, then main one "From Lexington to Baghdad and Beyond", everything else I googled and Wiki'ed my way thru. Select Dr. Lansford as the mentor for an easy "A".

clep- doesn't the American Dream ECE also go for 6 UL at TESC, or am I mistaken? If so, there's definitely no need to take any history classes unless someone wants to.

I'm pretty sure TESC counts it towards UL History, but I have not asked. Also, I've heard it was a pretty tough exam, that I just decided to go for the class. Besides, I needed a GPA from TESC and that course gave me a 4.0.

The reason I have the US CLEPs under SS is because the US and the West. Civ. CLEPs are all 100-level, and, if I understand everything correctly, I can only have up to 6 100-level credits towards my area of study. Kind of messed up my original plan, but I still think I'll be able to make it work without too many online courses. 3 of the DSSTs are 300-level, so they'll work for upper level, I think. The others are 200-level, and I can have up to 9 of those credits. I believe everything works okay there, but I could easily be wrong.

That's great! I will definitely look into those course, and exam credit options! Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation! If I end up taking a course from TESC, and I probably will, I will seriously consider this course.

The Ohio University UL history credits by exam are 2.6 semester credits each for Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, so if you want to keep your history credits from becoming too-US centric, it's a good way to go. BYU's course selection also looked very interesting to me.

Well, I've got another question. Smile

Has anyone used the World Religions DSST as UL history credits at TESC? It's classified as a humanities on the website, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this one.

Thanks again, y'all!
