Excelsior BA or BS Literature Degree?
#1
Right now I'm taking the core exams (CLEP SocSci, College Math, NatSci, Humanities, ECE Eng Comp) towards a Literature in English Bachelors.

Due to cost I'd like to use as many CLEP/DSST exams as possible (and as few Excelsior exams as possible). I've taken the GRE Literature exam, but didn't do so well, so I'm still deciding on retaking that in April.

Which one would be better between the BA & BS?

It really doesn't matter but I'd get a BA since literature is a humanities subject

I don't know if getting a BS versus a BA would make a big difference for you or not, but the major does seem like a nice complement to a BA. (That is what Ruddigore is working on, too.) There will be somewhat less flexibility (fewer free electives) with a BA, though.

Instead of the ECE Eng Comp, you could take UExcel College Writing (less cost and fewer credits).

Since you will get 15 UL credits for the major, you would only need 15 more in Arts & Sciences for a BA.

This is the most inexpensive way I know of to get those:

All 4 DANTES exams in Arts & Sciences – 12 UL –
Civil War
Soviet Union
Money & Banking
Business Ethics & Society

1 ALEKS Stats – 3 UL

I hope you enrolled before July 1, 2010, so you won't be required to take the capstone course (3 UL).

I also hope you enrolled before September 1, 2010, so you can use your GRE credits or take it again in April (last chance).

I enrolled back in June when I heard about the upcoming changes. Although I wasn't able to get started until later. Thanks for the exam recommendations.

For the ALEKS course, I'm assuming they'll take the Intro to Stats for upper level. To get credit I would submit course completion to ACE then submit that transcript to Excelsior? Or do I need to have a proctored exam?

You're welcome! So you're in good shape then.

Yes, I believe you can use any of the 3 ALEKS Stats courses (including Intro) for upper-level credit, but you will only get credit for one of them because of duplication.

There is no proctored exam for ALEKS. Here is a description (thanks to Bricabrac) of the credit procedure:

Also if you take ALEKS and need any lower-level free electives, consider the 3 free one credit NFA courses. They could be added to your ACE transcript and transferred at no additional cost with your ALEKS credits.
