Finance courses
#1
Hi everyone, I’ve come to the point where I need some input on UL college courses. I’m pursuing a BSBA in Finance through TESC. I’m not enrolled yet (will in December). I have about 90 credits.

I would appreciate it, if some of you would look over my credit distribution (attached below), and recommend courses or colleges that might fulfill some of the requirements. I do have one university that I think will work, but I have to make sure TESC will accept the courses before I take them. The name is Park University, they are regionally accredited, and you take a few courses without having to be enrolled. The only problem is price. It costs about $945 per 3 credit course!! So I’m wondering if any of you have some cheaper options.

I read somewhere on the forum awhile back, that the TESC course International Economics will apply to the Finance degree. Anyone know if that’s true?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Empire State College has a few finance courses that would work for you.

You can take Financial Management from Penn Foster
they also have a class called Securities and Investments that is UL recommended by ACE. I don't know if Internediate Accounting I and II and Cost Accounting would work for you, they are also upper level offered by Penn Foster

Why not taking Accounting I with SL too? that would save you a lot of money

Ft Hays may be a better option for you for the other classes

TBH, I would take finance courses which fairly challenging, not necessarily the least expensive. Columbia College might have some as well.

I don't know how or if these would work for the Finance degree, but they are cheaper than other options I've found:

Financial Planning (BMPC1)

I was going to look into it more when I'm closer to finishing most of the requirements for my accounting degree. I was considering going for a dual major.
I'm an engineer. Go figure.

sirjake, those courses look great for someone who wants to be a financial planner/adviser, but not so great if someone wants to work in a corporate treasury department, or for a money management firm or other parts of the huge financial services realm. Where possible, tailor your electives to your career plans.

Thanks for the feedback.

Do Ft Hays and Columbia College require enrollment for a semester or can you take individual courses as a guest? Also, do you know how much the courses cost? If you don't know that's fine, I'm just trying to save time and effort (dealing with some confusing sites and sometimes unhelpful customers service people). =)

@ perriquit. I already took financial accounting to I don't need Accounting I, but I will be taking SL's Accounting II to cover Managerial Accounting.

I will be trying to tailor my degree towards the financial analysis field, so thanks Yenisei, you have helped a lot.

One final question. How much does PF courses cost?

Edit: Is Fort Hays State College just for Military? I'm non-military

Thanks again everyone for you input.

FHSU would probably be in the ballpark of $160 per credit hour, and Columbia College around $230, but check their websites (also for their course schedules). FHSU is traditional semester based, but I think Columbia has courses starting more often.

For Financial Analysis, some more accounting courses wouldn't hurt, especially Intermediate Accounting and Advanced (Financial) Accounting, and also elective finance courses in Security Analysis, Advanced Financial Management and perhaps International Finance.

EDIT: looks like Columbia has courses in Risk and Insurance, Investments, Corporate Finance, International Finance and Real Estate that would be of interest as finance electives. Here is their January distance learning course schedule: Columbia College Online Campus Undergraduate Course Schedule (10_53).

One other thing- for the economics degree, find a way to take econometrics- an economics degree without it is less impressive.

Penn Foster classes are $90 x credit hour and they include the books.
