Has anyone used FEMA credits at EC? How many credits do they apply for each course? I need to fulfill 3 more credits either in arts and sciences or in health sciences and I'm wondering if any FEMA courses will be accepted by EC for these? My advisor at EC is clueless and looking into it, but that could take a while and I want to have these done in the next week. I know that Effective Communication will count as an Arts and Science, that much my advisor knew.
If anyone has used these at EC can you please let me know how they were applied? I either have to do this or take the Foundations of Counseling exam and I don't think I can get into a test center before the 11/17 deadline.
Thanks for the help!

Honestly, you'd be better off trying to get to the test center, both $ and time wise. I think only 1, maybe 2 FEMAs are A&S credits. There's also the NFA exams (which are ace approved) but remember if you did FEMAs, you'd have to wash the credits through another school and that adds the whole time frame of getting a transcript and sending it to EC, and waiting for them to process it.

Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

From what I have read on the forum, the limiting factor is most likely to be the cost of transcribing through another school. Here is more info:
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post73630
A BSLS allows 50 LL applied professional (free electives).
A BALS allows 29 LL applied professional (free electives).
I'm not sure how many free electives are allowed for business degrees.
Theoretically, you could fill the whole free electives section, but I don't know if anyone has actually tried it.

NAP,
For a BS in business from EC I have to have a min of 12 Applied Professional credits. Can those be FEMA's? If so do they have to be certain FEMA's? Also I have to have an Information Literacy Course and 14 additional credits that can be excess business or Arts and Sciences. Would FEMA's apply here too? (I know I have to take the Info Lit course, but for the other 14?) For this category does it have to be any certain FEMA's?
Thanks so much

Just wondering, Marianne, why not do Educational Psychology CLEP? I don't see it on your list of accomplishments and if LL is okay, with all the other psych courses you have already had, you can probably study for this over the weekend and take the test early next week.
Check it out. It was very doable, especially considering what you do for a living.

In looking at the charts on pages 37-41 of the Business Catalog, for many degrees 60 Arts & Sciences and 45 Business credits are required. The section called "Any Collegiate Level Study", which allows 14 in most degrees would be where FEMA could be used. Page 31 says that is a free elective section.
(No, the part that says 12 credits Advanced Level Business needs to be business credits, probably UL. See page 30)
Try to find more on the forum from EC students who have used FEMA. Sticking to the ones that mention college credit not just CEU's would probably be a good idea. Cost-wise it looks like it would be better to get 14 credits in any subjects through CLEP/DSST (also 3 free NFA), if you can.

FEMA and FCC have a partnership or something of the sort. After you complete your FEMA tests, go to WWW.EM-STUDY.COM, add the ones you completed to your cart for $76 each, and pay for them. FEMA will verify your credits and send all the information to FCC. This process took 3 days for me. Ten days later, Excelsior had my transcript from FCC. So it took 2 weeks which is around the same speed as CLEP and DSST.
I transferred in 36 FEMA credits toward my 60 credit Applied Professional/Arts & Science requirement for my BSL. You can transfer in, as many as possible, but remember that the majority of the credits are "applied professional".
I wasted $76 on 1 FEMA IS-242 credit because it duplicated an old public speaking course I took 5 years ago. IS-242 was the only credit that EC categorized under "Humanities (Arts & Science)". So definitely get approval from your advisor or it may cost you.
Con: $76 a credit is expensive, however, I have to travel 175 miles to take a clep/dsst so it was worth it after factoring in gas, trip boredom, and the fact that the credits were completed 2 years ago.

Clackamus Community College will transcribe
FEMA courses for much less. Apparently
Excelsior will accept them but they don't
Mention it.

I'm curious, I can't find anywhere, or probably I'm not reading too into deep into it.
Can you get credit from FEMA classes to apply into EC Business Credits? I have a CompTIA A+ credit that did apply to my Business credits giving my 2 credits, leaving 1 lonely credit I was going to use a CLEP to get credit for.
I will still be CLEPing that course, but I'm curious if anyone was able to get any EC Business Credits for any FEMA courses.
Thanks!
