Tesc?
#1
I am debating whether or not I want to get my degree through them but I have a few questions. Please help. Thank you.

- Under the BSBA in General Management credit distribution, there are 4 different areas of concentration (Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing). Can we take classes from each of those areas to fulfill the degree requirement or are we restricted to one specific area only?

- Is there a difference between applying and enrolling?...I ask this because someone mention an annual fee when you enroll.

- Is there a Graduation schedule?...and is there a cut-off date when the final class must be complete?

- Is completely testing out an option?

- For anyone who has received a degree from TESC, what was the turnaround time for completing your last class and receiving your degree in the mail?

I can only answer a couple. Graduation is four times a year and you have to have everything completed two months before graduation. I am graduating in December, but I had to have everything done October 1st.

I am pretty sure testing out completely in an option for business. But you won't get a GPA.

GMS specialization (9cr) Complete one three semester hour course in three of the following four areas: Accounting, Finance, Management,Marketing. These courses must be above the introductory level (eg 1-accounting, 1-management and 1-marketing).

GSM electives (9cr) Complete three more 3 semester hour courses from any assortment of the four areas above, using courses above the introductory level (eg 3-management courses).

There are many posts on the forum that describe the difference between applying and enrolling. Applying to the college is necessary to have an official evaluation of prior coursework completed. On enrolling it really is up to your situation, if you are testing out completely, will you take some courses at the school of choice, or alternate courses. When testing out of the majority of coursework most here do not enroll until within the year of graduation.

See Levi's post for testing option.

Degrees are conferred once a quarter: March (Jan 1), June (Apr 1), September (Jul 1), December (Oct 1).
* Graduation submission deadline date in parenthesis.

There is tons of information on this degree on the boards.

Good luck.

Thanks!!

The applications states that,

"...the residency requirement for all military programs offered by Thomas Edison State College have academic residency requirements of nine (9) credits for an associate degree and 18 credits for a bachelor's degree..."...do I just check the box and complete the application?

How do I avoid having to meet the 18 credit residency requirement?...I want to CLEP out and take SL and ALKES courses only....

Sorry for asking the obvious- are you in the military?

Once you finish your last class you can apply for graduation (or before sometimes if you are taking TESC classes) Once you apply your transcript is looked over then they decide if you qualify. You will get a letter saying you are approved for conferral on the next graduation date, Your transcript will not show awarding of the degree until your official conferral/graduation date.

I misundestood this. I completed all my requirements and applied for my degree in May 2010. in June I received an official raised stamp letter from the college saying I had been approved for conferral on Sept, 10, 2010. My employer was satisfied with the letter. In early September I applied to the state for certification of eligability to teach. I wrote to TESC and requested 5 official copies of my transcript so I would have them for future needs. When they came I opened one to keep and found out it did not list awarding of my BA. After calling TESC I found out that my official transcript would not include the awarding of my degree until after Sept. 10.

In otherwords if you completed your work on July 2nd and applied for your degree, you might get a letter by late July that said you were approved, but you would not be conferred your degree until the next graduation date which is Dec. 10, 2010. That is a long time to wait. So pay attention to deadlines and keep all the factors in mind.

I don't know how it is in other colleges and TESC does make the graduation deadlines and dates clear. I just had not paid attention to the fine print.

Yes, I am military.

From the exact date of your graduation, how long did it take for you to receive your degree in the mail?

Hi iCLEP2,

Sorry I can't help you out with the military specific requirements. There are many military TESC students, I'm sure someone can help you out, maybe ask again on the military forum?

On the current question, noting I live in state:
AAS grad date Mar 5 rec'd diploma Mar 13

They automatically placed me into the Military program when I enrolled. All it does is ensure that they get some money flowing through their bank account.

TA is cool, but I didn't want to waste my time taking more classes when I had everything done and ready to transfer. All I did was call them up and paid the fees and they graduated me.

Make sure that you request in state tuition and fees. They at least gave me that for being AD.
