N.J. Governor Wants to Merge Thomas Edison Into Rutgers

This is most likely a bad thing for anyone that wants to have the flexibility of credit pooling that TESC offers. If it is merged with Rutgers (unless some special provision is made) you will not be able to transfer in all of your credits from other colleges to get your degree, test taking for credits will be greatly limited, as will prior learning. There is a cap on junior college transfers of 60-65 credits depending on the program you are in (instead of the 80 allowed by TESC). It is much more expensive, semesters are much longer and are not as flexible. It will completely change the way that degrees are awarded through TESC. This is not a good thing.

any thoughts on the effects a merger would have on grad students? Should the proposed merger happen next year while students are in the middle of a Masters program, would the student receive a Rutgers Masters degree at TESC pricing?

I thought about applying this fall to TESC and liked the price and the testing out policy. If this passes when will this take place?

well crap. my dh just started with TESC. and I'm thinking bad. I don't picture rutgers being nearly as flexible or affordable as TESC. And I think the chances of them keeping the TESC features over their own is pretty much nil.

Not excited about this at all. I'm nearing the end of my college journey now, and will likely be ready to enroll and then graduate through Thomas Edison early next year. If this merger goes through then that won't be happening due to the fact that Rutgers wouldn't except the majority of the credits that I've earned through CLEPS and DSST's. It's a disturbing feeling to think that you've come so far and you're finally ready to graduate, only to see yet another potential roadblock that could be standing in your way.

I have heard from a very good inside source that the merger is not a likely thing. If by some freak of nature it does occur the likelyhood of it happening in less than a year is not good. There are several steps that need to be gone through.
All of the higher ups at TESC are against this they are sending out e-mails and urging all students and alumni to write to the governor and representatives if a NJ resident or the President if non NJ resident.
I plan to be done next month and walk in October we have been reassured that TESC is still planning the graduation ceremony. I am a NJ resident and did write and e-mail the goveror and representative

Anyone know what the status is on this ?

I'm planning on getting my BA from TESC within the next year, but it would be nice to just say "Rutgers" when people ask where it's from.
