Sorry to hear the bad news Creationstory Were you able to do MAT115 and/or MAT121?
Is this fair? How can you give to some but not others? I could stomache the stats is stats issue even though they were different level (I digress) but Beginning Algebra? Are they also going to disallow the college math clep? What the heck is going on? I wonder if its because the courses are not proctored? Do colleges do this sort of thing all the time? Giveth and taketh away with no explanation? ...times are continually a changing.:toetap:
i took college math clep and got
math 102 and math 103 ..
so as it stands the beginner algebra would have been a duplicate. this screws over other people more than it does me. if you typically write a letter to TESC or call them up it might be able to be corrected. I had some recent NFA Courses so I was saved.
The proctoring doesnt matter they took NFA and that isn't proctored!
Colleges do change their rules all the time, but honestly I'd rather deal with Thomas Edison or Excelsior than schools like Penn State or Baruch College. At least with TE or EXC you can transfer in damn near all of your credits. There is no residency requirement!

That's not going to affect most people because typically those who are taking ALEKS beginner algebra are taking that in lieu of the College Algebra CLEP. Obviously, TESC is not going to give you credit twice for MAT 102. ALEKS beginner algebra was the first math I took to fulfill my AA with TESC which btw was conferred for March 2010. Now I just double checked my evaluation again for my BA and nothing has changed. Everything on Cook's list is correct except for the Stats which was discussed on a different thread already which you can get only get credit for one of the courses but one member here was fortunate enough to get credit for 2 before the changes I guess.

Yeah my transcripts have been in since the end of January but TESC still has not evaluated them yet. That's what has me concerned. Since Creation's credits have already been evaluated i would think everyone after him would have the same result. banghead
BTW my College Algebra was fulfilled through a B&M class but this beginning Algebra is Math-102, not Math 121 which College Algebra fulfills.
I'm wondering if I should send them a help ticket and ask or wait and hope that creation's was just a mistake on their part.

Well I sent them a help ticket and I'll see where it goes. I can't believe this is happening.

Soupbone, maybe I'm not understanding this but I think your situation is different than creationstory. It sounds like you have no duplicates for MAT102 which then would allow Beginning Algebra to be MAT102 on your TESC academic evaluation. My Beginning Algebra was just evaluated in December 2009, not too long ago either. Assuming you applied for graduation, if you call Registrars and let them know they will have more urgency inputting the classes on your transcripts to the Academic Evaluation...in my experience they did it the same day. Good luck but I honestly think you're fine.

I might be misunderstanding. I thought he was given zero credits because TESC has decided that this course (Beginning Algebra) is developmental/remedial and thus not worth 3 credits. I do not have a Math 102 equivalent right now; only a Math 121 equivalent which is College Algebra. My nerves are shot right now waiting for my LSAT score so this would be bad news. I sent them a help ticket so we'll see how it goes. It also doesn't help that I've been sick for the last 4 days...so maybe my reading comp skills have suffered...LOL

No worries, I think you're good. Creationstory states in his last post from today:
i took college math clep and got

I know the closer you get to graduation the more you feel on edge when dealing with TESC. I have a feeling you did well on your LSAT's.

Well that's good news. I've been sick for the last several days and my mind is a bit hazy so my reading comp skills are slightly lower than they usually would be...:roflol:
I agree also that I've been on edge lately. It's due to the fact that any little problem with my evaluation will set me back. Last week some of my transcripts either got lost in the mail or were misplaced and I had to reorder them. I was very frustrated since I made sure I had plenty of time to get them in. They should be getting there tomorrow and TESC is aware of this. So far they have been understanding and I'm pretty sure everything is still on track (well until this thread popped back up :roflol: ).
I'll leave my ticket open with them so I can update the thread for anyone else wondering about Beginning Algebra as well. cheersmate

I have college Algebra And College TRig. Taken at B&M college so before I took ALEKS Beginning Algebra I called and talked to an advisor. I was told I would be able to get 3 credits for ALEKS and it would be OK with what I already have.
I just got off the phone with TESC, They WILL NOT and never have given credit for Beginning Algebra according to the women I talked to the ALEKS 0001 is a developemental course and they will not give credit.
The lowest ALEKs they will give credit for is Intermediate Algebra Aleks 0002 they will credit that as MAT-115. I am screwed:puke: I don't have time to take ALEks 002 now and I know I will forget it all if I don't I have to rethink my whole plan.
I want to scream:mad:
