So, I know I'm the only person here who doesn't know about Straighterline- I have read a lot of the threads and have a good idea about the concept. It's very ALEKSish.

My husband hates CLEPs. He has taken 3 but they were torture of the worst kind for him. Not sure why, but he just likes classes better. So, he is doing Beg. Algebra through ALEKS and it's going ok. I'm strongly considering getting him into the SL Micro class today. We have the CLEP scheduled for both of us in 14 days- I'm having serious doubts about that....anyway....

Tell me about the quizzes and the online text book. Do I understand it correctly that there is an online text that has quizzes which are then very similar to the quizzes you take in the course or did I misunderstand it to mean that the quizzes were nothing like the actual quizzes. I'm looking for a judge of difficulty. He is an excellent student- studies well- great at homework, but not great at quizzes. Will this class require us to get a bunch of supplemental micro guides, or can you do then course only using SL resources?

I have not taken SL Econ, but I did take an accounting class with them.
I did find that you could use the textbooks online quizzes to help with the graded tests and quizzes SL gives. In fact, in some cases (oddly) some of the questions were exact.

The entire concept is that the publisher McGraw-Hill (for ex.) wisely decided to fashion a course from their existing book inventory. This shouldn't be a surprise since the online supplements to the books these days are very thorough. So the SL courses follows the book exactly. You go chapter by chapter and take end of chapter quizzes, (which in many cases closely resemble the existing online quizzes for that particular book). Then you have 4 or so exams that cover four chapters. The best resourses for the course are the exact book and/or the online supplement to the book, since the course follows a particular McGraw-Hill book. For Macro and Micro start here and make your way to the student edition info for each book. I bought these books used for my son for under $25 each. Even if you don't buy the books then use the online student edition resourses. It is all there.

Yes they are SOCIAL SCIENCES which fall under the big banner of GENERAL EDUCATION...
