Excelsior College says it ended the year with $2M surplus
#1
Excelsior College, the Albany-based distance learning institution, said it ended its 2009 fiscal year with a budget surplus of $2 million. It also reported that in the first five months of fiscal 2010, enrollment increased 14 percent over the year-earlier period.

Excelsior has an annual budget of $60 million, and employs 400 people at its Columbia Circle headquarters.

Excelsior’s students include members of the military, veterans and military spouses (30 percent), and minorities (33 percent).

The surplus will be used to expand programs and boost the college’s reserves, said John Pontius, the school’s vice president for finance and administration.

Guess they've figured out a niche that meets the needs of many people!

B&M schools need to be paying attention.

...or that they can afford to lower their prices Smile

Don't we wish that were true!

Maybe they'll hire another teacher or two and start offering the classes I need, so I can get my 12 credits done through them. As of right now, I'm having to look at taking specific courses I need through the other schools that show up under their course list.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

I know I certainly have contributed to their coffers! I'm in the same boat with them canceling my budget and finance class two terms now out of the last 4 and I'm down to just that class and my capstone. I keep telling them it isn't fair to put classes on the schedule for months and months, then cancel them just before the term starts. I vote for more teachers and more qualified teachers! Spend some of that money on the students to improve the quality of their education!
