Well, you can apply now to see what prior credit you'll be awarded *possibly*. The eval you get when you apply is not official. You get your official eval when you enroll.
In my opinion, the best way to handle this is to start collecting your credits now, through CLEP, DSST, ALEKs, SL, so on, so forth... Once you have achieved enough credits that you are confident you'll be able to finish the degree in a year, go ahead and apply then, but don't stop collecting credits. The application eval takes 2-3 weeks (I'm on my second week of sitting on my hands for my app eval right now, they're telling me its probably going to be next Tuesday before I find out anything.) Once the application eval is done, you can enroll, and knock out the last of what you need.
The reason that you want to be able to finish off the degree in a year is the fact that they will hit you with a yearly fee unless you take x amount of credits per year from them. The first year costs $895 and subsequient years costs $495 or something along that line. I'm watching every penny I spend on this endeavour so I have to do things strategically, but this may not be your case. If you have the extra money to spend or someone else is footing the bill, it wouldn't hurt to get the ball rolling now.
