Worst Day Ever. No CLEP for me
#1
So my adviser had told me to clep biology since I had taken a similar course else-where that had not transferred correctly. Everyone said I could take it and that it would be fine. So I went to sign up today and they won't let me sign up for it because the biology I took transferred in as a 200 level course for some reason. So now I have to take this class i have already taken!

Thankyou to Everyone who helped me study and find resources! Make sure this doesn't happen to you!

Sorry for your experience, but I suspect most of us can tell similar horror stories due to poor counselors and counseling. I have learned to get everything in writing because of this but even then sometimes these places just "change policies" and we are left in the lurch.

Just put it behind you and move on with your plans.

Huh? I don't get it. You took a Biology course at College A. This course did not transfer to College B. College B Councellor tells you to take the Biology CLEP. You go to sign up for it at College B, but they tell you that you can't take the Biology CLEP because your Biology course from College A transferred in as a level 200 course.

But even if the class did transfer, it doesn't sound like they have the right to tell you "You can't take the Biology CLEP because you've already taken a Biology course somewhere." Maybe my knowledge of the inner workings of colleges simply lacking, but why would they keep you from taking a test because you already took the class for that test --- and then turn around and say you have to take the class again???

Maybe I'm just missing something...

So do they count 200 as Upper Level? Are you getting credits for the course you've already taken?

Don't feel bad about your school's policy. I know of a school that will accept CLEPs, provided you took the test before you applied. After you start going to school there, they don't allow any outside credits -- period.
