Bio clep help
#1
this is going to be my first clep!! Did anyone take bio clep recently? I looked at the specific exam feedback but I'm a little nervous..I've been studying for 3 weeks now and have 2 more weeks left...I followed the college board outline and I think I know the basics of almost everything but would clep ask me in details?

I'm in the same boat you are. I would suggest going to your nearest barnes and nobels. They have the CLEP 2010 study guide that gives an outline of all the basic topics you should have an understanding of. If you can look at each topic and subtopic and list off a decent amount information than i wouldn't panic! I have been told by others who have taken the test to be well versed in the anatomy of plants and in cell functions! Know terms and theories well. I haven't taken the test yet so if anyone else can give any gauge of what it will be like or any other information please reply!

I have never done any biology courses after High school(over 10 years back). I am planning to take the biology clep as a prereq for anatomy an dphysiology and I was wondering if just using the insta cert flash card prep would get me to pass the test, or should I use any other method of prep. I just have to tell you that my knowledge in Biology is pretty much none.

Instantcert + REA Book + Wikipedia

NAP talks about her study experience in this thread

Also, you'll want to make sure that your school doesn't require any labs with the Bio prereq.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

I took this in October. I have not gotten to add my feedback to the other part of the forum, yet.

Here is the list of resources I used:

I just took the Biology CLEP today. I studied for 2 1/2 weeks and got a 69! The only Biology background I have was one course in high school, and an environmental science course I took this fall in college. I used IC and I watched some lectures from this website.

UC Berkeley Webcasts | Video and Podcasts: Bio 1B

The lectures are pretty in-depth but they did help me understand some concepts that I didn't fully understand from IC. I only watched a few of them. Just the topics I felt that I needed help with.

I also took one of the free Peterson's tests online. I didn't feel like that helped me a whole lot. It just freaked me out cause it made me feel like I didn't know anything even though I'd been studying a lot!

Otherwise, I didn't use any other resources. The topics that I think are important are meiosis and mitosis (know the orders of the phases, and what happens in each one), the order of classification (Kingdom, Phylum...), the main characteristics of organisms in each Kingdom, what happens in photosynthesis, the life cycle of plants, and the basics of genetics.

Most importantly...DON'T STRESS OUT!!! I was sure I was going to fail this test, and I ended up doing fine. 115 questions in 90 minutes. I got through the questions and still had 27 minutes left, but I am a pretty fast test-taker.

Good luck!! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I actually don't know how to access the Peterson's tests but I got these links from a previous thread. It's just the PDF version of the first practice test for Biology. I don't know how to access any of the other ones. Sorry. Sad

Test:
http://www.petersons.com/pdf/clep_biology_q_print.pdf

Answer key:
http://www.petersons.com/pdf/clep_biology_a_print.pdf

Keep in mind that the Petersons tests are a little harder than the CLEP. I scored 57% on the Petersons test, but ended up with a 69 on the CLEP.

and scored a 70.I used five biology books: homework helpers, dummy`s, cliffs, 11th hour,AP bio test prep.I sorted them by degree of difficult, picked a section and went from simpilist book all the way up to AP.Know your cell structure, genetics and population bio.Be prepared for a few bar graphs and line charts, enzymes and glands.MIT open courseware is fantastic if you have the time to listen to lecture videos.(Grahams lectures on dna replication)then instantcert your self to death and you will ace this test!
