Roadmap help
#1
Hi all

I think I've narrowed down exactly what my goals are now but I'm still confused about the best way to get there.

Here's my situation: I have 30 quarter hour credits from Northeastern University as follows:

Accounting 101/2/3 9 credits
Business & Management 3
Business Law 1&2 6
Intro to Marketing 3
Economics Intensive 9

1 CLEP - US History I

Ideally I would prefer a health management or business management bachelors but for now my priority is to get the quickest, cheapest degree I can which would appear to be a liberal arts degree.Once I've got that under my belt I can think about a second degree or a masters or whatever.

I was thinking EC but wonder if I should look at TESC because they'll take FEMA credits. I had started working on a roadmap for EC but I'm having a hard time figuring out what courses I need, what CLEPs are acceptable etc at TESC. I'm also a little unclear on the relative costs. Whichever school I go with, I'm not going to sign up until I'm less than a year from having all my CLEPs done but it appears that TESC might be more expensive than EC. If so, does that wipe out the savings I get on the FEMA classes?

Confused? You will be! Smile

Cheers
Mitch

I will tell you that I did a lot of research on both schools and TESC was a whole lot more expensive EC. Keep in mind that EC is waiving the BSHS enrollment fee until 12/31/09 which will save you $895. Even if you have to pay an additional year of SSF at $420 you are still coming out ahead. Then if you renew your SSF within a month of graduation they will credit all or part of your SSF to your graduation fee of $495.

I think TESC used to be a good option for some when they would accept 200 level courses as UL, but now they are no longer doing that. I believe that even though TESC accepts FEMA credits most will be used as free electives and they don't take all of them, so your are limited in using them. So I'm not sure you will get as much bang for your buck at TESC as you think. I believe their SSF is over $2000 per year, so that is huge compared to EC. They have also pulled all their TECEP exams, so you will have to go outside the school to find additional courses / credits to fulfill the degree if you can't find CLEP or DSST exams to fill your needs. Also you will find that customer service isn't a priority for TESC. So if you will need assistance getting through the process or you are in a hurry for help, evals or graduation - TESC isn't your place!

Search for the threads here on TESC, EC and COSC and you will find out how each school works. I looked seriously at TESC for my BSLS but they were more than double the cost of EC.

Good luck. I know it can be daunting to try to get through all the info, but take your time and ask here. I think more people here are TESC or EC students, but you can find info on all 3 schools here.

Is there one set price for Excelsior or is it just the enrollmetn fee then whatever I need to test out of? I am trying to figure out what I still need before I apply and enroll but cannot figure it out. I dont want to waste money taking something I do not need. FOr the Liberal Arts can you totally test out of it???

Yes, a degree in Liberal Studies is a good choice because you can use tests to earn credit for almost all of it. The exceptions are Information Literacy and sometimes Freshman English.

Update: UExcel now offers a test option for English - http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post67382
