My best friends daughter wants to do online courses through them. It seems very expensive for a medical technologist cert. She was already ripped off once by Devry. Anyone have experience with them?

Tell your friend to check out community schools and public Technical Centers or colleges. Here in Florida, we offer the same subjects, our graduates take the same licensing or certification exams, and in some cases cost as little as 1/10th of what the private schools are charging!
Some kids often just don't know the value of the money and how long it can take to pay it back. I was teaching a small course to students who needed it in order to get so they could submit an application to get into an RN program -- A father had driven his daughter and stayed and waited to pick her up as they lived a county north of here. After the short orientation, he came in to ask a few questions. When he discussed her getting a state grant for the first 2 years she had just completed (then changed her mind) but he hoped she could get into the community college for the nursing program, and he new there was a waiting list, etc.....She spoke up and said that if she did not get in she would go to Nova and that's where she wanted to go anyway. Nova is a private, elite university that charges about $26,000 a year, vs the $2,600 average annual fees at the other school. When I pointed out this expense variance, she just shrugged her shoulders. You should have seen Dad's face. He was unaware of the variance in cost.
Anyway, it is an idea -- hopefully they offer these types of options where your friend lives.

At least for this girl. She is 21 mariied with 2 children so she wants to go to school online. I am not sure where she thinks the money will come from, but my friend and her husband might go hungry in order to help. I just thought I had heard something about Kaplan credits being useless anywhere else and I wanted to check.

I did go to there accreditation page I see nothing about RA or NA . I also went to degree info, didn't see any negative there. I guess it depends what you are looking for.I will check out the links from Gary next. I just hope I can save my friend a little frustration later.

I don't know anything about Kaplan but I do know that ITT credits are no good anywhere else -- at least here in Florida.
I would want to check that out as to Kaplan.

I work for KCI a San Antonio based medical device company. We have annual re-certifications we have to recieve through Kaplan. They present alot of material and you really have to absorb it, but if you take the time you can learn alot. The tendency with Kaplan is to go through the material too fast and not really know exactly what your reading. The short tests at the end of each section donât really cover all the content adequately. If you really take the time to read everything youâll see itâs all there.
