Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics

Sorry, just venting and brain dumping. I now have 45 hrs and 35 mintues in the ALEKS Precalculus without Trig course and I am at an assessed 62%. I am going to try and get above 70% assessed by the end of this weekend and request ACE credit next week. I know this is a much cheaper and shorter way, but it is not the easiest. I am however very thankful for the chance to complete this course this way.

I have enrolled at EC and am pursuing BGB.

I have worked in accounting for well over 20 years and have worked my way up to controller. The company i currently work for never required me to have a degree because of my experience. Their policy was education/experience equivalent. Great company to work for. Well they have now decided to close all the regional offices and move them to the corporate headquarters in Denver. They are offering to relocate me to Denver, but they require a degree now for any of the positions I am interested in. If I can get this done over the next six months that is acceptable so I am spending every waking moment on school. I have 39 hours transferring in from previous course work and now with theses and the EC Info Lit I finished last night, I am at 52 hours (almost half way there).

In light of this, I have a very short timeline to get my degree.

So long story short - I have some serious motivation behind me.

I understand your frustration but hang in there. I know from experience ( very recent experience ) that it can be done. It took me 4 tries to get past 64. I finally studied till the assessment came up - took a few minutes to pull it together - then just be very careful to do your calcs twice just to make sure you have the right answer.

Your credits are just around the corner.

Thanks for the support. I hope I can finish it tommorrow. I start back to school on the 24th, in a traditional B&M school in an accelerated BSBA degree program. It will take a year and a half to complete as long as I test out of the few remaining general education requirements I have. After that, I intend on working on a Masters in Pub Admin.

Hello,

I received confirmation today that chadron state college, an RA school based out of nebraska, will accept college algebra and business stats for their math/stats requirement for their business degrees! I do not know about intermediate algebra or beginning algebra, but the advisor seems to think at least intermediate will be accepted as elective credits.

I just thought I'd share this info in case others there are interested in programs not offered by the big three. I am going to enroll with the school instead of EC to save costs for fees as I am not a testing student.

I have the utmost respect for anyone fighting their way through precalculus and intro to stats (well done momof2) or any of the ALEKS maths courses.

I was lucky to have the background to knock out the pure maths courses at leisure but the last three weeks with intro to stats has been a lot less than fun. Last three assessments were 66%, 67%, 67% with those last two 67%s done back to back until 4am with work at 8 (optimistic, mmm?).

Knuckled down for some proper study (goodbye lunches and Sundays) and now at nearly 2am (work again at 8) have finally got a 73% Will take that, thank you very much.

Unlikely to have stuck it without this forum to provide the great motivation. Keep at it guys

I was just wondering if before I sign up to start Aleks Stats program if I need to go out and get me one of them there fancy TI BA-II caculators? I am assuming that you need some type of calculator capable of doing statistics-type problems right? Is there a particular one that is recommended?

Hi Kelly,

Yes and no. ALEKS is great in that it provides a software calculator for any calculation you need to make which requires one. It can do everything from multiplying and solving matrices to evaluating F-distributions.

You can run Excel or a similar spreadsheet program for working with data as required to supplement the calculator.

However, it is nice to have a decent scientific (not necessarily graphical) calculator to punch away on in the same way pen and paper is often preferable to typing maths stuff. I used and continue to use the Casio fx-83 ES for most purposes. There are enough online graphing calculators not to need a graphing calculator in my hand and the online apps are often easier to get to grips with.

I feel your pain! I spent an entire weekend stuck at 68%. The feeling of relief when my 5th assessment hit 72% was indescribable. Congratulations! You must feel so awesome now!
