Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics
jonasling Wrote:Could people who have used ALEKS please tell me the approximate actual hours spent to achieve 70% and the name of the course taken? Thanks in advance.

Intermediate Algebra: 73 hours 43 minutes.

Intro to Statistics: 58 hours (with no prior statistics knowledge)

I was able to finish both classes in January along with studying for Uexcel Poly Sci and DSST Intro to Computing. (I didn't do much else but study that month Wink)

It depends. Assessment might take 1-2 hours if you have prior learning. This is roughly how long it took me for each of the maths courses.

Now working through the stats courses with only probability prior experience and it's a whole different kettle of fish Smile

irnbru, thanks for your reply. So if you know algebra/trig/calculus, all you need to do is take the assessment and it takes about 1-2 hours each? is that correct?

otherwise, if you don't, then how long would it have taken?

how long for stats? how far along are you?

Thanks annegirl, how does the time get logged? is that actual time using the application? or does it include idle time.

approx how many hours did you have to work on it a day?

Thanks again.
I'm using Intro to Stats and currently have 48 hours logged. As of last night's assessment, I'm at 63%. I'm hoping to be able to hit 70% within the next 10 hours or so.

I am doing the College Algebra (Precalculus without trigonometry) and as of my last assessment this afternoon, I have logged 37.5 hours and am at 53%. The hours are logged based on the amount of time you are logged into the program. If you are logged in and walk away, that time is being logged. So far, it has been very helpful and overall I have enjoyed it. I would however caution anyone from thinking it is a quick route to credit, unless of course you already know your math very well. I took College Algebra in college in the early 90s and made a D in it and I have not touched it since. As you can imagine, some of it is a review, but most of it I am having to re-learn it. At this point I do not even know if my school will accept it. I know they accept ACE credit, but I am not sure if they will accept ACE credit for my math GER.

I hope some of this helps.
Thank you wendyr and dflowers2 for your replies. very helpful. good luck to you both.
I received an e-mail yesterday from the director of Marketing for ALEKS. ALEKS plans to recertify all of their ALEKS courses with ACE.

I'm not really sure how they log the time. If I wasn't using it I signed off pretty quickly so that is all user time for me.

I figure I worked on average of 4.5 hours a day. Some days it was longer, some shorter. It was a *long* month. Wink Glad to have it behind me. Big Grin

(I took algebra etc. in high school. It didn't make sense to me so it didn't stick. I know of others who have taken the first assessment and gotten 70%)

Thanks annegirl. Very helpful.
i am confused...........

i am taking Intro to Stats

how do you successfully earn credit? Yes you need over 70%.......... how do you earn that?

based on how you test on an Assessment or the practice hours you are logged in attempting the problems they provide.

also does the time i am logged on complete an assessment affect the outcome %?

my current stats are:

Requested Assessment 2/24/2009 45*%- 2.4 -hrs
Login Time Assessment 2/19/2009 42*+6*% 1.3 hrs
Progress Assessment 2/11/2009 39*+7*% 0.8 hrs
Initial Assessment 2/3/2009 22*+17*% 2.6 hrs

ALSO, does requesting an assessment hurt you?

how many assessments can you take?

i have to confess i have not been logged on enough.....
