Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics

Huge bummer!! I think that TESC and EC were always about the same cost- but with this discovery of 9 ALEKS math/science credits for $20 and 27 FEMA for free, I think EC is costing a little more.
Has anyone here been denied by Aleks? I finished an assessment last night at 71% and submitted the request to ACE. I just logged onto the ACE website and it said that my request had been denied. Have the standards gone up? I though we were only required to hit 70%.

Wow, I didn't have that problem. One of the assessments was 70% blue and the other was 72% when I finished. ALEKS approved them with no problems. I just finished statistics 2 weeks ago. Have you tried calling ALEKS?

When you hit 71% was that the blue line or the green and blue line together?

Does anyone know how many of the college algebra courses they will take?

Beginning, intermediate, and college algebra.

Could someone in theory take all three, and use one as math credit, and the other two as electives?
Did I read on this ALEKS thread somewhere or was it just my impression that there is a time factor of ACE approval of ALEKS like this is say a year or so window? Not wanting to start any rumors here so be aware I may have even dreamed it! My son is working on ALEKS Precal & my daughter will at some point but I was just wondering if there is any time factor where this window will close.
Thanks!
I heard a rumour on this thread that they were no longer ACE approved but it was disproved. Was there any thing else about time limit?

I think this is the link ( from page 17 of this discussion) that you are referring to :

Hi derek10rr3,

The key maths restriction as given on page 17 of the liberal arts catalog states:

"Arithmetic courses and courses that have been designated as developmental of remedial may not be used toward your degree. No more than three courses on the semester-hour system (or four courses on the quarter-hour system) of mathematics credit below the level of calculus may be applied to any degree. Representative titles of math courses below the level of calculus include College Math, College Algebra, Elementary Functions, Modern Math, Fundamentals of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus."

I think I remember reading somewhere that EC only accepts 'Intermediate Algebra' and above. Maximising maths credit has been discussed quite a bit here recently. It has generally been understood in this situation that for EC it's a case of doing the College Mathematics CLEP for 6 credits, two qualifying ALEKS courses for 3 credits each, the Calculus CLEP/UExcel and another stats course for 3 credits.

Reading about the success people have been having with transcribing ALEKS courses it's becoming a hard choice between TESC and EC regarding using lots of ALEKS courses vs. a restriction of ALEKS plus the ICDL/ECDL (which is worth 7 credits at EC).

Thanks for the link. So I "guess" that means he needs to be finished with anything concerning ALEKS before 1/15/2010??? Do others (cookderosa, anyone else...) on here read the situation this way?
Also, since we are not at the point to have an ACE transcript sent to TESC will the credits earned through ALEKS be accepted when we do have the ACE transcript sent even though it may be a few years down the road ( when I guess ALEKS is no longer ACE approved) ?
Any help on deciphering this will greatly be appreciated.
Paul
