OSU Post-Bacc BSCS degree name about to change
#1
Found this post in r/OSUOnlineCS heated discussion about seemingly inevitable degree name change, Post-Bacc BS in CS Name Change AMA : r/OSUOnlineCS (reddit.com)

Alums, current and prospective students understandably not happy about adding "Applied" to the degree name, becoming BS in Applied CS or some other proposed names.

That's not good. Why do they want to differentiate it from their 4 year degree? I don't get it. I think this will negatively affect their enrollment especially now because there are a lot more options in the online CS degree space then back when OSU originally came up with their online postbac CS degree option.

Not many here go to OSU, if anyone planning, they may want to investigate this further and see if they're going to be affected (if they're deciding on undergrad or graduate school). You can also look for alternative options if it really does affect you, there are many options to select from, including the MOOC options from Coursera and EdX, in addition to the ones we currently recommend or have on the WIKIs.

People are pretty sensitive about how their major is listed on their transcripts since employers may be biased toward certain types of majors.

$30k+ for this post bac course. almost same price as Penn's MCIT.

not worth imo.

auburn also has a 60 credit CS degree course sequence online for the same price

Same 60 credit, but Auburn uses semester credit, while OSU uses quarter credit. As 60 qtr. credit is equivalent to only 40 semester credit. That makes OSU 1.5x more expensive.

I’m currently enrolled in this degree program and, honestly, I’m feeling frustrated. One of my main issues is the cost. I’m paying more than on-campus students, yet I don’t have access to campus facilities like the library or study areas. It’s disheartening to be alone, struggling with homework, and knowing that I’m paying a premium without the benefits that come with being on campus.

In fact, for an art degree, the additional costs are definitely high. The funds we receive are reduced according to the regular program regulations. However, we can use those as motivation to study well
