Path Recommendation for 50 y.o. male in US
#31
Preliminary path layout for my Pierpoint BOG to UMPI with the goal of UMPI BAS MIS:

Pierpoint BOG:
  • What's the current recommendation for English Composition I and II [Sophia, Study, or UMPI]?
  • Does this table cover my 15 general education requirements for the Pierpont BOG?
  • Do I need another 45 [elective] credits in IT related courses [TEEX, Google Certs, etc.] to complete the BOG?
  • Any courses listed that are better taken somewhere else?
UMPI:
  • Any course that fills 2 or more slots [English Comp II, or Intro to Ethics, Ancient Greek Philosophers, etc.] still only counts a 3 credits? YES So I'll need other courses to fulfill 120 credits? YES
  • If I understand correctly, I'll need to take 10 courses at UMPI for 30 credits? YES 12 in a selected minor and 18 in upper level [300-400]
  • Any recommendations for those 12/18 courses at UMPI?

So far I've completed:

Intro to Psych
Intro to Stats
Intro to Relational Databases
Visual Communications
Intro to Technology
Environmental Science
Various TEEX Cybersecurity stuff [Not in Credly yet]

Yes any course which fulfills more than 1 area of the GEC is only worth 3 credits. You only took the course once. Yes all degrees require a minimum of 120 credits. The GEC must be at least 40 credits. You'll have your minor courses which is 18 credits. You'll have to complete at least 40 technical credits. And the remaining are general electives.

Yes you will need to complete a minimum of 10 courses - 30 credits - at UMPI. UMPI's catalog also says 12 of which must be in a selected minor and 18 of which must be upper level courses (300- 400). These 18 upper level credits taken at UMPI may be taken as part of the GEC, the minor, or as elective credit. I don't know if they're still enforcing this.

I was able to complete all of my undergrad GenEd requirements on Sophia in just over a month [39 days].

* Intro to Statistics was the hardest for me; that took me 4-5 days
* English Comp I and Workplace Writing II each took ~2 days [8-14 hours]
* Most courses were completed in 3-7 hours [one a night]

Still need to:

* ASU graded credit
* Knock out 15-20 elective classes
* Apply for the Pierpont BOG degree [do I need this?]
* Finish 10 "business" classes at UMPI

Thanks to bjcheung77, ss20ts, and everyone else who helped.

Are you still planning for the BAS-MIS at UMPI?  It will require 40 technical credits. I just don't show you completing that many in your post history, which is why I ask.

I haven't decided.

I expect the majority of my electives will be technical / IT related as that's the field I've been in for ~25 years. ~13 classes in tech seems feasible. I'll still learn, however I should have a good baseline that allows me to go quickly.

However, the business path at UMPI looks pretty quick too, so I may go for "quantity versus quality" so to speak.

Whichever bachelor you choose (BLS or BAS) it will do the one thing you need a degree to do, and that is allowing you to 'check the box'.   Smile

Instead of doing electives, you could do a 2nd minor.

I would bring in project management from Sophia for the MIS minor since it's fast to do at Sophia.

Then you still need 5 courses at UMPI to finish the MIS minor and have 5 UMPI that could be applied to another minor if you choose. You can have up to 3 minors.

Which degree has a more general 'hiring appeal' for IT;

Business Administration
Management
Project Management
Management Information Systems

A combo of 2 or more?

Also, the Pierpont BOG;

I am considering skipping this and just doing everything via UMPI. Am I going to kick myself later by not going this route for the GPA and the AAS [cost or time isn't a hard concern at the moment]?
