I want to Teach in South Korea but I'm having a problem
#1
Hello! I recently graduated with a BA Degree in Education in hopes of traveling to teach abroad next year.  I've been teaching for 4 years independently.. And I'm an American citizen. But my degree was issued by an accredited University, not in the US. The education was provided by CIE online (Canadian Institute of English) so all my courses were in English (I have proof of this). I want to get my Degree Authenticated (Apostille) and US Equivalency Evaluation. I also have proof of 10 years of my studies here in the US.  How I can I obtain the E-2 visa? Do I need to talk to a lawyer?

Here's the private message you sent me, and the answer I provided you. We don't have any extra details that give us the 'entire' picture to help you further. Over the years, I've had many many people PM me in regards to getting a visa to teach... Having said that, they 'think' their degree is accredited, but they're not. What you're trying to do is 'brute force' and try loopholes to get the degree recognized, in short, it won't work. In the past, I've had people do the 90 credits using ACE credits and quickly completing a degree... But without the info in the addendum plus template, I don't know your situation, neither would most of the readers, senior members, and moderators.

cakt07 Wrote:Hello! I saw your comment on a thread from 2022 and wanted to ask you a bit more since you seem to know a lot about what it's like for placement in Korea. I'm going through a bit of a rough patch. I recently graduated with a BA Degree online. My education was provided through CIE (Canadian Institute of English) which is accredited but the School issuing my diploma is Haiti. It is a foreign degree. I've been told I can't work in Korea with that degree, but all my courses were done in English. I want to find a work around so I can apply for an E2 visa. What exactly does Authentication or getting an apostille for that degree do? Will it help my chances? I'm also trying to do a Foreign Equivalency Evaluation. I want to work at hagwons but I'm not sure what to do. If you have ANY suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Validating your degree credentials is the first priority before applying for the E-2 visa. Have you checked the requirements directly on the Korean government websites to see exactly what they expect? That could help guide your next steps.

While you work on getting all that paperwork in order, I came across this really helpful tourism guide for South Korea that provides tons of insightful stats and information - https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-...-know-5254 Might be nice to give you something positive to read about the country as you prepare.

Keep at it - I'm sure with persistence you'll get it all sorted out.

I am not as confident as cakt07 is in the accreditation of The Canadian Institute of English and the university that awards degrees based on their courses. I'll leave it at that. Things may work out well but people might want to do more research lest they consider this an opportunity.

In short, I'm not going to elaborate on this board or the sister forum, there have been cases where 'shady' institutions (including known degree/diploma mills) were able to get a favorable international evaluation in Europe and other parts of the world... I've had many people PM me in regards to getting their 'unknown' institution degree 'recognized', for the last few people (3 in the last month), I told them to get 90 credits within 4 months or less from Sophia.org instead at just $299 for 90 credits!
