mattbau43 Wrote:When asking about the Sophia Biology (SOPHIA SCIE1021) with lab as the fulfillment of 3e that : "It's two separate courses to the best of my knowledge to fulfil the science requirement you are looking for."

Can anyone elaborate as to taking Sophia Bio w Lab and having it fill the 3E requirements at UMPI? It am receiving conflicting information.

Hey, I don't get what you mean, what is the conflicting info you're referring to?

Yes, Human Biology with Lab will fulfill 3E. Yes, they are 2 separate courses. UMPI isn't going to come out and say sure take classes elsewhere. Colleges want your $$$.

That's good to know. I can see where the confusion is. It looks like one class on Sophia. I will relay this information. I appreciate your input

I am being told by several people that the criteria to fulfill 3E at UMPI can filled by this Sophia course (SOPHIA SCIE1021). When I asked UMPI if this course fulfills the 3E requirement, UMPI said no it does not.

I see, I thought the conflict was referring to "one course" vs "two separate courses"... Anyways, just like Study.com, Sophia.org uses Labster for the course and it's included in the price. If you go the Study.com route, you have to pay a separate subscription to Labster for the course. It's still better than taking a lab science at StraighterLine as you get a physical lab sent to you after you purchase the lab kit, its more expensive and takes longer to complete as well...

All set on this. It does transfer over. It is necessary to select 2 classes at sophia to fulfill this requirement. The bio class and lab are separate sophia credits.

I'm in the middle of Human Biology (sophia) and it is a beast. Not difficult, but loooong.  Takes time.

If you're trying to learn and retain all of the info from the course for future reference it could be time consuming since there's a lot of terminology. But otherwise it's actually a pretty fast class since the 3 credit non-lab part of it doesn't have any touchstones. Can easily knock it out in under a week with only a little time devoted to it each day.

I hear you. I 'm trying to go through it in a bit of detail. I find it pretty interesting, so I am taking the longer route. :-)

I didn't find the course to be a beast at all. I didn't take the lab as it didn't exist when I took the course. I learned everything in the course in high school biology. Much of the info about the human body systems stayed with me. I found it to be kind of short for a biology course.

I probably learned it in HS too. 30 years is a long time.  lol
