Degree Planning Advice - 31, Norway, No Higher Education

The edX class is only applicable for the BACS degree. We have yet to find out whether it will work if you get a dual degree of BACS + something else. It might or might not. I would suggest contacting Don Stolz. If he says it'll work, it should work. If he says it won't work for a dual degree, at least you won't be wasting your time.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. Is Don's his email/contact details readily available?

I have not signed up to TESU yet. I guess I could do this now while I still work on transfer credit? That way I will have a better point of contact for questions like this?

When my son asked for his dual program at TESU (BA-CS and BS-CIS), Don replied that it is only valid for the BACS and cannot be used in a dual degree situation. The response was last fall 2023.

YMMV.

Oh well, you can always try another person and get the 'full answer', such as Patricia Certo or my backup choice Chrystal Guadarrama. Most likely TESU has it written only for BACS, but if you do the double degree, you can graduate both at the same time. I wonder what they say and the reason why it's only applicable to one degree...

To get in contact with Patricia I guess I would need to be signed up via the degree seeking pathway / the Individual Learning Account Application (previously Credit Banking)?

From reading the Wiki it mentions to sign up to the Medical Terminology TECEP would this be after the initial sign via degree seeking application and application admission fee (50usd)?

Ok so after some more reading throught the wiki and TESU. I have sent in an application for 'Next 12 Months - Undergraduate Non-Matriculated'

Then I will need to sign up the the TECEP and then should be able to speak to an academic advisor (Patricia Certo). Is this correct?

ASenna Wrote:Hello,

I am making my way though Sophia. I should be done with everything in the next 4 weeks and will take a stock check of whats left. I have a quick question about the Fact, Fiction or Fake SOS-1100 course. I am wondering if I can take this via Edx and if its a good idea? Am I correct in thinking that Information Literacy via Edx is equivalent and will meet the requirement for SOS-1100?

The main reason I am considering this option is to give me some more space for another class in the flat rate term which would be nice with the double degree plan and I have a 30% discount for Edx and it seems to apply to this course which is great.

Thanks again everyone.

Question: What are the 5 classes you want to take in the flat rate term? Maybe one of these classes can be done through TECEP or e-pack.

Basically, I would apply, send in transcripts for evaluation, and ask after you get accepted, you don't have to take the TECEP just to ask...

Hello,

I wanted to check in with some updates and ask for some advice.

UPDATE
I am working through English comp 2, Public Speaking and SAS Advanced Programmer Professional Certificate.
After this I would have completed all the General Education requirements apart from SOS-1100.

SEEKING ADVICE
So I am at a bit of a crossroad now. I have a decisions to make. I have nearly all the requirements for the BACS apart from the flat rate term for software engineering, computer architecture and a couple other classes (I need to plan this still)

I would like to also complete a BA mathematics but there is a decision to be made now. Time, financial and opportunity cost.

FINANCIAL COST
To complete a mathematics degree to meet the requirements for the graduate program at my local university I would need to find a lot of higher level math courses outsideif TESU. I have two possible options here; one is though the local university which would not cost me tuition. "This is not guaranteed, I am waiting to hear back if they will let me take the courses needed to meet their requirements" or through other online universities but at a steep cost, higher level math classes are expensive.

TIME
If I look at the time needed to complete the higher level math courses I think I would be looking to add 9-12 months onto my completion date if I wanted both BACS and BA Mathematics at the same time. Higher level math takes time and to try and take Linea Algebra, ODE's, Calc 3, Vector Cal, Analysis and most likely one or two more classes in complex functions/modeling/dynamic systems in a short time would not be possible for me. I know I could not managed for example 3 of these classes in a 12-16 week term. I could maybe manage 2 at least to start with with say Lin Alg and ODE but I don't know who sustainable this would be with the harder classes.

OPPORTUNITY COST
There is an opportunity cost. I could potentially graduate by the end of summer/autumn if I drop the BA in mathematics. I can start to look for employment in the field I want to work in, get some experience and build out my CV and portfolio while I pick off the math classes I need for the graduate program. This would however delay the graduate program start date by most likely 12-18 months I would say.

DECISION TIME
So I have to make a decision. Complete the BACS and possibly an associates in (Math and Business Admin?) or wait it out for me to complete the BACS and BA Mathematics together.

Thanks again for all the help. I know this is a decision I would need to make but it helps to write it out and I value your advice and input very much.

I recommend completing the degree with the add-on associates and possibly add-on certificates & looking for a job, over getting the BA in math for now. Taking the math classes locally (free is king) and pushing out the graduate degree by 1-2 years is very reasonable, especially as you may find that your interests or directions for said degree may expand or even change as you work and grow.

Here are a couple of links to check out as you look for those additional math classes:
