SOPHIA----Opinions on courses???
#1
Hi,

These are the Sophia courses,
I am considering taking first.

The thing is,
I really would like to gain some confidence ,
by taking the easiest courses first.

I would like to take at least 5 courses in 1 month.

I am looking for anyone's experience with these courses,
as to their level of difficulty.

Any advice would be appreciated!!!
Thank you!!!

Public Speaking has traditionally been kind of slow. It's not as bad as English Comp II, but it does have Touchstones that require previous Touchstones to be graded first. If you go with TESU or UMPI, Public Speaking isn't even required. If you still want to do it, do it first so that it doesn't artificially extend the time needed at Sophia.

The other classes are relatively easy and have few or no Touchstones. Depending on how much time you spend per day, you may be able to complete significantly more than 5 in a month.

I notice you don't have Ethics. Have you already completed Ethics? All institutions we recommend here will want an Ethics class.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

For TESU, you'd take Presentation Skills in the Workplace from Study.com. This course takes only a couple of days to complete, if that, and has no assignments. There are only the quizzes and the final exam. Compared to Sophia's Public Speaking, it's a walk in the park!

For UMPI, the Workplace Communication course you already have planned at Sophia will fill the same "slot" as the Public Speaking class.

If you haven't already taken them, US History I & II are relatively quick/easy. There are some trick questions in the Milestones, but it gets easier once you have a feel for what they're actually looking for.

If you like History, especially American History, perhaps you'd enjoy TESU's BA History rather than the BALS/BSLS you were inquiring about earlier? UMPI's BA History is also good, but has less emphasis on American history. And a subject degree (like History) is usually better than a generic BALS degree - especially if it's a subject you like.

Great advice as Always!!!!
Much appreciated!

You have so much knowledge!

Every answer from you,
brings up another question!

In speaking about study.com,
Are there some other courses like
Presentation Skills in the Workplace, that are super easy?

Are there courses at STUDY.com that are better for UMPI,
then Sophia?

For UMPI specifically, almost everything that can be done at Sophia should be done at Sophia. The exception is English Composition. That's better done at either UMPI (preferred) or Study.com. Whatever's leftover after finishing at Sophia can be taken at Study.com, when available. But, at least for the history classes, almost everything will be faster/easier at UMPI than it would be at Study.com.

Aside from Presentation Skills in the Workplace, few courses at SDC are going to be universally "easy". The LL History classes can be easy because they have just quizzes and a final exam, no assignments. But some people prefer assignments and would rather do the UL History classes.

Plus, it depends on whether you're planning to go for a BA History or some other degree.

I found these easy to handle

Introduction to Nutrition
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Topics in U.S. History

I didn't like US Government mainly because of the two touchstones that take forever to grade.

@OP, It really depends on the student and their study habits, it may be fast for one person but slower for another as the subject matter just doesn't jive with them. I would do things that suit you more than randomly selecting courses to do first. You should review your previous thread for Sophia/TESU here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...g-and-TESU

Within post #2, it has the equivalency link. You can see that there are touchstones, which are written assignments, the ones with written assignments are the ones that will take the longest. You can decide to take the ones with NO touchstones just to get the hang of things. One more thing is, invest in a second monitor for multi-tasking, these Sophia.org are open book for everything including the final exam.
