Quick Classes
#1
I need to find 1 quick, easy class for this current session. Yes, I know - quick to one person may be long to another. But for example, in the last session, I had POS 101, and it was cake with a 1500-word final. I also had BUS 200 which was Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - again, easy as pie.

It was my understanding that HUM 103 (but currently listed as HUM 186) was similar to POS 101 but just saw it's an 8-10 page paper on the final. I can't do it. I don't have time to explain all the intricacies of why, but needless to say, it's tech-related and makes handling massive papers like that impossible.

I don't mind what the category of the class is. I just need one that's not heavily time-consuming or a heavy final paper.

Can anyone here list some classes from past experience that I could look into?

Did they move to Brightspace this session? If they did, then the courses have all changed. If not, then they most likely haven't changed.

HUM103 fulfills a GEC requirement. Have you fulfilled that requirement? An 8-10 page paper isn't uncommon at UMPI. Do you want a course that has an exam? What degree are you seeking? What courses do you have left to complete? No point in taking classes that won't apply to your degree.

Brightspace, not to my knowledge.

I have only taken 2 classes last session (POS 101 & BUS 200). This session is HPR 101 & HUM 103.

HPR 101 is fine and after Day 1, I'm already 50% thru it. But HUM 103 (which lists as HUM 186 on the course materials) shows an 8-10 page final, which I can't do. And yes, I'm aware of the paper-heavy finals of most of the classes.

I am currently on the BLS in Project Management. Long story short, it doesn't matter what the class is or whether it applies to my degree. I won't be taking classes at UMPI after this session.

So I literally just need to find any easy class I can blow out quickly.

I've read that HTY 465 (Films of the Cold War) is long in the sense of having to watch movies, but short in the sense of the final. But others have said the opposite.

How about POS 211? I can handle a 1500-word final, but if it's 5-10 pages, it's not gonna happen.

Bus 101? BUS 242? CRJ 101?

I'm not opposed to an exam rather than writing papers, but don't know how those are handled at UMPI. I'm assuming they are a bit more serious than the quizzes are.

Searching around the threads, it looks as though the two history classes with Prof. Z are possibilities - Vietnam War and the other is Arab/Israeli Conflict. Seems to be the same as American Govt with 2 short writings and 1 1500-word final. Unless it's been changed, which I won't know until I add the class and check the Final Assessment.

I found a BUS 242 Spreadsheet class, which might be a possibility as I completed the BUS 200 Word/Excel/PowerPoint class.

Not sure about Intro to Political Thought or Constitutional Law (which looks like 1 writing and 1 Final Letter).

History of Cold War Films is a breeze. Just watch or research the video for the milestone and its an easy pass without having to watch all the movies/videos. However, I watched them all because I was going for a history degree. The final is pretty easy. Run it through grammarly and Prof Z will do the rest.

Also NAtive American History was really good, but if you don't care about the lessons you can blow through it in a day. The final is a powerpoint.

UMPI offers a couple local Native American languages on campus. They have staff to work directly with their Native American students.

I can't say what race the person is who wrote the course material for a Native American history course. There may be reading material from the local tribes included in the course. As far as colleges go, UMPI does embrace the local Native Americans, their culture, language, and history far better than many other colleges.

Most history books are written by White people. Nothing is stopping you from finding sources that are written from the perspective of the folks being discussed in each course. You'll find most colleges have White professors in the history department. The good ones try to educate from all sides and not just one perspective.
