ok I must have gotten the wrong Clep book, because the book I got from amazon just had a practice exam for every clep subject. What you sent me was actual study material and that is what I had hoped the book was that I ordered!!!! I think I'm going to try ordering some REA guides too, they seem to be very helpfull from what I have read on here.

Mindy-
I found the REA book with CD and big help with this one. The sample tests were fairly good and I found reviewing the detailed answers quite helpful. I was preparing for 3 exams at the same time and the REA tests for this one helped me focus.
Good luck.

Are you finding the REA books in line with the CLEPS? Because, I spent a whole week of hard core study of the IC cards for intro psych, but then took an REA practice exam and got a 41! There were about three total questions from IC that was on the REA practice test. How in the heck do people only study IC, and go in and pass the actual clep?

You didn't get the wrong book- the book you got is the book I would suggest to anyone who planned to take several CLEPS. I think you said you were going to take about 10 right? The book you got is the "bible" and should be sitting on your shelf as a reference for each exam. It has the breakdown of what is covered percentage-wise (important!!!) and then a practice test for each. I actually "save" my official clep practice tests sometimes until last- as a final "check" to see if I am over the 50% mark.

That book, however, isn't necessarily a study book. Most people, myself included, liked to find a specific study source (or two) for each exam- maybe mix it up a bit. Example: REA books. I personally found the REA books to be on the money. I didn't use them for every exam, but I had 3 or 4 I think, and they were great. If REA has a fault, it might be too thorough in some cases. Now- keep in mind, many people here never open a book. They use the IC cards only, so it's all about your personal preference.

For me, each test was a little different in my preparation, but I usually used a combination of either an REA, discarded text book, sparks notes/charts, online searching, Teacher Professional Development and Teacher Resources by Annenberg Media free videos, or videos on Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases Just mix and match and use what you feel is helping you absorb the information as best as you can.

In the end, you need to know the basics- study shallow and broad. It's easy to dive too deeply into some subjects. If your taking a 101 level exam, you need general knowledge.
Do know who Erikson is. Do know his 8 stages. Do know each conflict at each stage. Have a general idea of when, and what else was going on in psychology at that time.
Don't watch a 2 hour biography on the guy. Don't read about his childhood home and where he went to college. Don't read about all of his research and the outcome of all his published work. Don't memorize the whole Wikipedia page- it's overkill. You see? Stay shallow- but know the basics rock solid. Don't over-think it and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess when I bought the book I thought there would also be some reading material to go with it. I'll definitly take the exam and I think I will save it for last, I'll take the Peterson exams first...... Those are a real treat! Smile

Hi,
I passed the test by mostly using sparknotes Psychology: SparkNotes: 101s --> it is awesome.
If you know the material on this webpage, you will pass.

Mostly this exam is common sense and with a basic knowlege of psy you can reason what the answer is or might be.

Good luck to you! Smile

P.S. read under the thread "I'm going to clep psy!!!" for additional resources and search under the Specific Exam Feedback Only area.
