BIO105 Problems

There's a reason the BIO105 was not recommended in the WIKI and instead BIO101L was recommended at Study.com, I would really look into your options and see if "sticking it out" at UMPI would be faster or taking the course at Study.com be better.  You should get your other courses done if you can and then continue working on the BIO105 if you're sticking with UMPI for that course.

My wife corrected and sent it for seventh time this morning and the professor just wrote back that it still needs corrections, but they are impossible. If the bar graph is representing values from 212-252 then it won't be represented correctly when the y-axis is limited to 0-60...WTF

My wife is probably going to be kicked out. She just posted back a pretty scathing post to the professor and nasty e-mail to Jessica and Cody.

The last day of class is tomorrow at midnight. So probably too late to drop it. Minus this one graph that isn't on the instructions all coursework and final are done. I guess she can just take it again next term. All the works done.
She should upload her final to the portal even if the last milestone isn’t affirmed. Have her try anyways, it’s worth a shot.

I agree with the others who have already posted: drop it if at all possible. If she can't get it done to the professor's satisfaction in 8 weeks, she can't get it done AT ALL. Drop it to avoid the F grade.

The problem is she has been affirmed on the other 5 milestones and her final is complete, just needs to be turned in. She sent an email to Cody and all he said was due the course survey. Lot of help he was. I guess if the instructor doesn't affirm it she'll faill it because of a graph that had zero instructions or isn't even in the rubric as a requirements.  I guess that's what happens when you take online courses in a small Northern Maine school with adjunct faculty as a part-time gig.

I'll have her check out the study.com as a back-up

Just to clarify something about UMPI. Most of the faculty are full time professors at UMPI and UMFK. There are a handful of adjuncts and almost all of them also teach on campus. There are only 2 faculty that I know of who are adjuncts from out of state. One is a professor at a college in North Carolina. The other one.....well he's not. He's not teaching bio either though.

This has been a course for a few years that we have said to take elsewhere. There are a couple that are a bit more on the challenging side and that's why we say take them elsewhere. I transferred in my lab science - thankfully. I did suffer through Spanish and started telling people to take it elsewhere if possible. Sophia now has it which has to be better than being told you cheated which is what that professor does to many students.

As for the Study course - there are a few options - bio or chem. She would just need to take the one with the lab. StraighterLine also has lab sciences that transfer to UMPI.

Has your wife requested a meeting with the professor to go over the issues? It sounds like she needed to do this awhile ago. There are no extensions at UMPI unfortunately. If help was needed from Cody, one needs to ask before the last week of classes. I needed his help with a professor who wasn't responding to emails. Turns out the professor wasn't getting them for some IT reason.

Professor responded this morning and told her she overlooked the corrected graph and it was fine, also said she was right that what she asked for was impossible. That is crazy. Especially since this is the third milestone where she admitted she overlooked something and then affirmed it. For wanting 100% on a milestone to be affirmed, I'd think she would give the same attention to grading. It was affirmed and final submitted.

Her whole experience has been completely different than mine. All my history and Polic Sci class were enjoyable, but the business tracks seems to need some work.

I apologize for the UMPI negative comments.

The instructor for this class is adjunct faculty, so maybe she is new to the whole online/yourpace/college/teaching career.

My wife completed 8 classes this term and BIO105 has taken the full eight weeks. She is literally on her 7th iteration of her milestone 2, but the professor has a very specific vision of what a graph looks like, but can not clearly write what that is. I've never seen my wife get mad, frustrated, or rude with a professor. This one has pushed her over the edge.

For thought the last day of class is tomorrow and she can't submit her final until this last milestone is affirmed.

Anyone else take this class and have problems?
I submitted a milestone response 8 times before it was affirmed. The professor’s expectations were unrealistic. I felt defeated while taking this course. I spent almost triple the average time on this course as I did on other courses. I eventually passed but I hope I never have to take another Biology course. I had a horrible experience.

@BreeW78, for UMPI, you want to take the most "optimal" courses, 10 of them at the least, that can get you a good/great GPA and transfer in the rest. It's great you passed their course, otherwise I would have recommended going through Study.com instead. Did you transfer in close to the max of 90 credits?

Uh-Oh! bio 105. I'm so sorry. This is literally the worst class I ever took in my BA, both of my Masters, and my doctorate. Bio 105 is torture. This professor requires everything to be 100% a perfect A before she passes you. You cannot even get a B with her.

Is the graph she having trouble with the one with the Lactase lab? I did two graphs. One for an activity you have to create yourself and the lactase graph. She gave me the most trouble with the lactase graph.

Here's what I ended up doing. Uh-Oh! this professor. She wants a freaken bar graph. But she won't tell you that she wants a bar graph. This professor is definately bright, smart, etc, but, she doesn't treat her online class as competency base, she treats it like an actual in person class.

I transferred in about 60 credits. I followed course recommendations on DegreeForum for the most part. After applying, I discovered that it would be cheaper to take courses with UMPI because a large part of my tuition is covered with FAFSA.

Neither, the professor was bean counter. They sent back one of my submissions for something that was present in three prior submissions. They didn’t decide to critique it until they ran out of things to say. Having to submit anything 8 times is excessive. The professor wanted the milestone to be perfect before affirming it.
