I'll be taking Teams and Technology next session! How are the team collaborations? That's my only concern with her class. I've had to do team collabs at another online program and it was a disaster. People went on vacation during the course, took off for the weekend, submit their portion of the assignment late. It was a headache! And so stressful. That class was only 5 weeks long which I think made it worse.

I always worry about that as well. In my case I got assigned great team-members, and we worked well together.  We worked the assignment(s) like a project and got it done. It was rather real life (work) application; because in this remote world you often end up working with people you don't know, people you didn't pick and crossing timelines. In this course it is truly more about how you work together as a team, rather than the product produced (not that you want to produce a bad product - 'it' just doesn't need to be as perfect as the team effort put in).

Just out of curiousity… is that “Teams” as in “Microsoft Teams”? I work remotely and use Teams all day.

Nope. Not Microsoft Teams. It's about how to manage a team virtually.

That might be interesting to be a fly on that wall. LOL. I’ve been 100% remote since around October 2020. I am not even sure if I want to go back to anything in person any time soon. No one uses cameras, so we can be in our sweats or jammies or whatever. No one cares. If ya gotta walk the dog, or pick the kids up from school…. No one cares. Everyone is getting stuff done. That’s all that matters.

Correct, it is not about Microsoft Teams specifically - but the topic of platforms like that are part of the discussion. Your class team will need to decide which platform they want to use; we used what was available within Google since Amberton email is already on the Google platform. You can share documents and meet like in MS Teams, made it easy to collaborate. It is as much about managing a remote team is as it is about being a good (remote) team member. It is a very timely subject matter, and brings up things you likely hadn't thought of before - as it applies to working remote from your co-workers.

It’s funny how you can feel like you “know” people you never met in person when we meet on Teams a lot.

When ss20ts said he really like the informational session, I hopped on the next one they had and I remember him saying the library people were really great so I hopped into that breakout room and Dr Joe Pendleton was in there. He was very enthusiastic and we had a great convo so I chose him for my Theory and Application course. Did you happen to have him in one of your efforts to take the class?

Thanks again for your response!

I think Dr. Pendleton only teaches the research course. I don't think he teaches other courses. But you can look at the Summer Course brochure on the Amberton website. It lists the courses being offered and who's teaching them. I really enjoyed Dr. Pendleton during the info session. I've sat through many of these types of things for a bunch of colleges and this was the only one where someone for the library was included. Being informed prior to the start of classes what resources are available and how to use them is HUGE. I have not had many online programs inform students what's available, how to find it, or how to use it so I have struggled at some schools because you need access to the journals for the papers. I LOVE how there's a chat during business hours for the library. I have found them to be REALLY helpful.

The syllabus viewing prior to enrollment is the best thing about this! Are you doing school FT?

I really enjoy Dr. McGuffin. She is teaching Managing the Generations class I'm in right now. She is a full time professor at Amberton so she has like 2-3 grad courses each session and a few undergrad.

I LOVE that I can see the syllabus ahead of time. It has saved me from some headaches where I'm just like yeah I don't have that in me right now. Some classes are more work than others. I know my personal limitations so knowing at registration what work you'll be doing is a major bonus to me. I am full time with 3 courses per session. I have read that 4 can be taken but you need approval for it. I am going to try 4 classes in the fall session if I can get permission. Summer is too busy to tackle 4.

Thank you both - I will look for classes from her!

Congrats, Susan! How exciting!!!

I reached out to Amberton about a capstone and was so glad to hear that for the MS in HR and Bis, there isn't one!!!!

"No, there are no capstones required for this program; however, this could change if you opt to take a course that is considered a capstone like MGT6203 - Strategic Management."

@CarpeDiem8, Is there a specific reason you're not interested in Capstones? Most degree providers require either a capstone, course, project, thesis or another alternative. It's all personal preference... When you get up to the graduate/Masters level, it's generally those options to select from.
