Almost done with Pierpont BOG degree..trying to decide where to go next
#1
I'm working on my last course to complete the BOG degree at Pierpont-no area of emphasis. I'm trying to decide where to go next-WGU or Excelsior (other ideas also appreciated). I'm looking for a school that has a good business degree where I can transfer as many courses as possible and get this finished. I plan to complete as many courses on Study.com and Sophia in advance but need to determine which school/degree plan to follow to look for classes. Thank you in advance for any tips or advice.

Looking at your current list of credits, a lot of them will not be applicable to a business degree. It doesn't matter where you go, you won't be able to use them (and especially not at WGU).

But, instead of WGU, what about UMPI? They would take slightly more of your current courses than WGU would. You'd just need a few more courses from Sophia, Study.com, and InstantCert. https://umpi.edu/yourpace If you finished in 2 terms, it'd be cheaper than Excelsior. 3 terms and it'd be about the same price. Most students here finish in 2 or 3 terms.

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for your reply. I should have mentioned, I am not expecting all of my prior credits to apply to the degree. But am specifically looking for a Business Degree for my line of work. I just wanted to make sure to list all the courses I've taken so as to not leave any information out.

Thank you for the information in UMPI! I would love to look in that school! I have not heard of their program.

Rachel,

Do you know if UMPI has a cutoff for the age of courses they will accept for transfer? That's one of my concerns with the school I choose. I looked at their BA in Business Administration Program and it looks like a great option for me.

Sorry, I meant sessions, not terms. There are 2 sessions in each term and 3 terms to a year. Each session is 2 months. So most people are able to finish in 4-6 months after enrolling.

If you do decide on UMPI and want either the Project Management minor or concentration, don't take Project Management at Sophia. It'll make things more difficult in the long run. At bare minimum, you're going to want Biology 101L from Study.com. You do already have a science with a lab (Astronomy), but the grade is too low to transfer to UMPI. It's also recommended to take Spanish I from InstantCert, unless you know a different foreign language. Then you could take an ACTFL exam.

I'm not sure how UMPI will take your Economics courses. I think you might need Macroecon from Sophia, but it's not clear.

Don't apply to UMPI before gathering all the credits you're going to transfer in.

I'm wrapping up the Pierpont AAS BOG as well, and transferring in Sophia, other ACE credits and RA credits; after a lot of research on WGU Business  and UMPI YourPace BABA Management/Leadership on this forum and the facebook pages I've decided to start at UMPI on 3/14. (and will have to let my WGU Business advisor know shortly)
. UMPI is allowing more credit transfers than WGU.  I also like the fact it's only a $1,400 commitment for 8 weeks, and the credits will likely transfer elsewhere as RA credits should I not finish at UMPI.
i applied both places and sent all transcript to see how it would turn out for the number of courses left to complete.

I'd advise you to check https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...quivalents for the latest Sophia-to-UMPI information that we have available. I would fill in the GEC table below with the CC credits you already have. ( Grades of D will not transfer, but C- or better would https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...l-transfer ). Once you've done that, you can start figuring out what Sophia (and elsewhere) courses you might need to fill in the remaining GEC requirements.

I think katiem727 has a good portion of the GEC completed and some/all of UMPI's elective credits. The GEC is at least 40 credits, but some of the credits you currently have would fill requirements already met by other credits. These additional credits would then drop down to your electives until your electives are full. For instance, Psychology and Sociology both fill requirement 2B. Only one of these can be used in that slot. Once you get Intro to Ethics from Sophia, which is needed for at least requirement 5D, I'm guessing that Psychology will probably drop down to electives.

So, first, you're kind of comparing apples to oranges when you're looking at a Business degree vs a non-business degree, so keep that in mind. You're also looking at a Human Resources concentration for some and not others.

EC - for the BSB, you'll lose Financial Accounting, Computer Literacy, and Advertising (they're too old).
For the BPS, you'll get to keep all of your credits; you'll need 64cr to complete the degree, 30cr of which will be UL

UMPI - for any degree, you have to take a lab science (they won't take that D grade for Astronomy); I wonder if you could take Astronomy through Study.com and then use the Astronomy lab you passed as the lab? I'm not sure what they'll do about that. If you have to take a lab science as a single course, then you will have to take Study.com's Bio w/Lab. You need Spanish.

For the BABA, or the BLS, you're in the same place, you only gain 3cr or so.

For EC or UMPI, neither has a HRM concentration.

That won't work. You have to take your science and lab together.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and advice. I'm leaning pretty strongly towards UMPI now. I like that they have shorter terms & courses will transfer elsewhere if needed. From what I can tell from reading threads, it seems like their model has more projects and essays and fewer proctored exams to pass. I was worried about finding the time to schedule exams.

I'm not looking forward to taking another science and lab + foreign language, but I know there are many options listed in the group for that.

I'm taking Accounting on Study.com right now for my last course to complete my BOG degree at Pierpont. I'm hoping I'll be able to satisfy one of the math requirements with that. I'll plug my courses in the the Gen Ed Requirements to start a tally.

If you have any more advice, please send it my way.
