I don't think this is true at all, since it totally depends on the major, and the school.  Many computer science degrees are BA's for instance, and I wouldn't say that's more legit than a BS in General Studies at all.

Many schools only offer BA's.  Some offer both.  Some give you the option for your degree - I've seen schools offer a BA or a BS in Psych for instance, but there is zero difference between the major courses.  A BS has you take more math & science courses, while a BA has you take more humanities & social sciences.  Most of the "A" or "S" part of things is up in the GE area, so most employers just don't care.

You can't generalize BA / BS because it literally varies by school. In other countries there are distinctions, but not in the USA, it's whatever they want. And some schools ONLY issue BA, so you can't go by that.
