I've taken a number of CLEPs, but just now getting ready to take a couple DSSTs (there are two in my plan, and want to get both done while they're $70 a pop).
Hoping somebody who has taken both can give me an idea of how they compare in terms of style, format and content.

Nearly identical experience in every way.
The only real exception is that a CLEP has 5 possible answers and a DSST has 4, but other than that if you didn't know which brand you were taking, you couldn't tell the difference during the exam.

For the most part, I agree with Jennifer, although I find DSSTs a bit easier (perhaps because of the 4 vs. 5 answers).

I've taken both, I don't remember either being easier or harder.

I have always had more success and higher scores with DSST. I feel that the information on instant cert and the exam forum better prepares you for DSST.

Statistically, you have a 100% chance of getting every question right on either exam since the correct answer is already listed for you to mark - you don't have to come up with an answer on your own on either test.

This is correct. For each DSST question, you have a 25% chance of getting the answer correct. For each CLEP question, you have a 20% chance of getting the answer correct.
The only way someone would have a 100% chance of getting every test question correct is if there were only one answer choice for each question, and the test forced you to select an answer for each question. Otherwise, statistically-speaking, there is not a 100% chance of someone getting a perfect score on the test. If that were true, everyone would get a perfect score. It's the same as flipping a coin. Just because heads is an option does not mean that you have a 100% chance of getting heads. Humans are not perfect, so even if the correct answer is in front of them, there is not a 100% chance they will select it.
