Degree Completion Advice Pierpont/TESU
#41
I suppose in theory you could take Chemistry I w/lab and then Physics II w/lab, or vice versa, but why would you take a level II science without first taking I.  Either way in the end it is the II w/lab that is the tough to achieve through alternative methods.  However there are a few low cost online CC options (they are just not fast)

So tired of my posts not going through!

What I said (and did not just repost everyone's stuff) was that TESU used to say that you had to take Physics I & II w/Labs. Then, at some point, someone tried to bring in Chem I & II w/Labs, and they were accepted. TESU changed the website to say Chem or Physics I w/Lab and Chem or Physics II w/Lab, which is ridiculously unclear. They need to say Physics I & II w/Labs OR Chem I & II w/Labs.

Agreed. There is an implied assumption that someone couldn't TAKE the II course without having taken the I course, but that's not really clear enough.

Ah, I see it now, it is just not officially called Capstone - it is the BSTS degree version of a Capstone because it's not available through any other source.  That clears that up, for the bachelor degree(s) Dec is off the table, as taking it in August would have been the cut-off.

Yes I didn't realize it either until I had put into my academic evaluation. Sadly all baccalaureate level degrees there appear to have capstone requirements.
Thank you all! And actually this question was for the Cornerstone requirements to graduate with the ASNSM Biology and ASNSM Mathematics degrees in December. Sorry for any confusion. His plan right now (if the stars all align) is to complete the BA/BS in March or June of next year depending on the results of his evaluation, but would like to attempt to graduate in December with the 2 ASNSMs, if in fact TESU will allow one residency waiver to cover both graduations.

Also as a side note regarding the Lab requirements. If motivated it's not terribly difficult to meet this requirement within 1-2 months. Just pricey if you are in a hurry. The two best options we found thanks to some independent research as well as MNomadic's guidance were either:

A) Use SDC for Physic I and Physics II for $200. Take the Physics I Lab at SL $148 + $125 Lab Kit Fee (self paced) and take the Physics II Lab at TESU for $366 tuition + $122 Lab kit fee (6 week course). There may be a cheaper option for the Physics Labs but I've not found one yet. Total cost: $961 or $120/credit

or

B) Use SDC for Physic I $100. Take the Physics I Lab at SL $148 + $125 Lab Kit Fee (self paced) and then CLEP Chemistry (Currently free w/Modern States or $100 if that program is no longer available and take the Chemistry I Lab at ed4credit for $65 + Lab Kit Fee of $99. Total Cost: $637 or $58/credit (CLEP is 6 credits)

The other options ofc would be to do the Chemistry Clep for Chem I/Chem II (possibly free with modern states) and the ed4credit Lab I, and TESU Lab II. We also plan to ask advising what ed4credit Chem I transfers into TESU as. SDC and SL apparently are no considered Introductory Chemistry now unfortunately.

The SL transfer agreement states that if you take either Physics I + Lab and Chem I + Lab they should transfer into TESU as Phys I/w Lab and Chem I/w Lab which would be the absolutely fastest way to meet this requirement, but I read on another thread that it did not actually transfer in that way which is a bummer.

Is anyone able to confirm this? I am extremely close to completing my Aviation degree and have already completed General Physics 1 Via SL. I'm waiting on the lab kit thru SL right now. So does completing Completing Physics 1 course and the associated lab both via SL on separate dates mean that TESU will not accept them as the equivalent PHYS 1 w/lab degree requirement?

It has been stated on here numerous times (recently) that TESU wants a Level I w/lab and a Level II w/lab - the only option(s) is choosing between Chemistry or Physics as the subject.  I know that when I applied the the BSTS through TESU last year this is also what I was told - all my sciences are in Bio, so I switched paths (one that fits my current professional path vs my historical credits)

Also someone recently took Chemistry I w/lab (with SL https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...om-CHE-111) and the lab was ok, but the Chemistry I didn't count (it came in below the LL equivalency TESU requires).  TESU is quite set on what they want for this requirement, I'd hate to have you waste time and money on something that won't fill it.

So after reading that thread it appears that Phys 250 and Phys250L  through SL satisfy the Physics 115 degree requirement. Someone posted their evaluation showing as such. Thanks for the reply.

I am attaching the BS Technical Studies evaluation my husband just received from TESU for review and any feedback or suggestions you all may have. He seems to have everything done for a BS Tech Studies except:
 • Information Literacy
 • Civic Engagement
 • Natural Science
 • E. Mathematics
 • Cornerstone
 • Capstone
I don't know exactly what the requirements are for Information Literacy, but he didn't appear to have anything that fit there either so I suggested he take the SDC Library Science course unless anyone thinks we could request one of his "other courses" to be moved there. He has already finished the Library Science course on SDC, but wanted to wait to pay for the exam until he was sure it was needed.

His APUS Course in International Relations did not meet the Civic Engagement Requirement. I've attached the syllabus in case anyone thinks its worth appealing, but otherwise I guess he can just take Am Government or something to fill that slot.

To be honest I am still confused as to what the requirements are at least for the BS Technical Studies degree. For the Natural Science it only states: Choose two of the following: Chem I/Lab; Chem II/Lab, Physics I/Lab; Physics II/Lab. When playing around with the what if evaluation tool there were some degree evaluations that specifically listed out either Physic I and Physics II OR Chemistry I and Chemistry II. Can anyone look at his evaluation and see if this is saying the sciences MUST be concurrent? It appears to suggest ANY two of the 4 listed would meet the Natural Science requirement.

Also, we were surprised to see that his Discrete Math course does not appear to be used or fulfill the MATH requirement for this degree. It says any math above College Algebra. Discrete Math is above College Algebra so it seems like that course should meet the requirement. When we do review the link of their suggested courses, they list a LL Discrete Math course as an option, but his UL Discrete Math course doesnt appear to fit so we are confused lol Instead it was listed under "other courses" and not used at all. We were not sure if it was worth appealing. He is also completing the ASNSM Mathematics/Biology so its probably a moot point once he transfers in his ACE and SDC transcripts.

He transferred in 150 credit hours and is showing the Cornerstone as still required. I know someone recently had asked if they waived it still for 104+ credit hours transferred at once, but it appears that is definitely no longer true in case anyone was still wondering. He plans to take the Cornerstone when he gets his next day off of work which will hopefully be within the next two weeks.

We have a list of questions to ask TESU including clarification in regards to the natural science requirement for this degree, but I'm not sure they will answer anything prior to his being officially enrolled.

Physics I + Physics I Lab at SL do not appear to be a problem. They will just transfer in as two separate courses if they are completed on separate dates, but should still meet the requirement for PHYS I w/lab. Although considering the Chemistry I course was downgraded by TESU without notice by SL or any update on their website, I would definitely confirm with TESU just to be sure if you are concerned.

The Chemistry I course (not the lab) at both SL and SDC were reviewed sometime this year and apparently downgraded to Chemistry survey courses which will not meet the Chemistry I course requirement from what I understand. I've not heard any problem with the Chemistry I lab at SL not transferring in as expected. Unfortunately this does mean that if you take the Chemistry I course via SL or SDC you will still be missing the Chemistry I credits despite SL's website indicating otherwise. I know the Chemistry Clep would count for both Chem I and Chem II as an alternative, but I'm not sure what other alternative credit provider courses would actually be considered Chemistry I equivalents at TESU. I plan to ask TESU if the Ed4credit Chemistry course would be an option since I've heard good things about their courses.

The discreet math may have just been an oversight on their part. Definitely worth inquiring about unless he's already transferring in a bunch of other math courses.

SDC lib sci would definitely be the quickest and easiest way to satisfy info lit since he's already done(besides the final). The other courses don't look like they'd satisfy it but I'm no expert.

I'm not sure if they will still waive the cornerstone but it's absolutely worth asking about. Another option is you could ask if the "foundations of online learning" under other courses could take it's place. It doesn't hurt to ask and they may be willing to be flexible to accommodate his situation.

Hmm, can you also attach your ASNSM evaluations using the "What if" option? Attach all three in PDF format, let's see what it says. BTW, which ACE courses have you completed? If you've completed them, list them as well. I would email TESU to appeal both the Civic Engagement AND the Higher Math requirement and see what they say...

I know you were asking for the other poster for their input but mine is showing the same thing.
The following is what it shows for my Tech studies eval using the what if

D: Natural World 8 SH (Not started)
For TESU course options, go to Chemistry and Physics Courses
General Chemistry with Lab and/or General Physics with Lab (DEGREE REQUIRMENT)
Choose two of the following :
CHE-121 4 SH, CHE-122 4 SH, PHY-115 4 SH, PHY-116 4 SH

Here is what it looks like under my current(aviation) degree plan

D: Natural World 8 SH (Not started)
For TESU course options, go to PHY-115 Physics I with Lab
and PHY-116 Physics II w ith Lab

It sure looks like they are giving you the option to take the Level 1 courses.
