Thanks! You're right, the SDC class was watered down and also terrible, so I was going to run through the material from a different source anyways. I've been using Khan a bunch lately and I do enjoy that platform. It let's me choose what subjects I want to study and breaks it down pretty good. It has lots of quizzes as well with good answer explanations.

I'm going to check out saylor and the other one you mentioned too.

Hi MNomadic,
Did you complete the SDC class of Calc 1 or did you stop halfway through? If you did complete it, how was the final exam?

I did complete it, but it really, truly is a terrible class. There were NO answer explanations for any of the quizzes or practice tests and such. The quizzes after the videos didn't properly correspond to the material taught in the video. The final was actually very easy. There were enough easy questions like, "what calculator button does this?"

Let's put it this way, I got the college credits through the SDC class, but I got the knowledge/learning from different sources altogether.

It probably would have been much better to just use Saylor or MS/CLEP. I had guardian scholarship at the time so was determined to utilize that.

I orginally signed up for SDC to do the calc I (6 credits!!!) and presentation skills class. However despite having never taken a formal class in calculus due to my work and hobbies I have used some calc here and there and learned a little on my own (mostly DSP and electronics specific stuff) and I can tell you what SDC is teaching is a joke for calculus so I dint bother to finish it, though it is for non-stem majors so that is expected.

Anyone reading this if you want to do higher level math then dont take that class you are only fooling yourself, its only good for getting the 6 credits on your transcript probably if you are doing the comp sci which only requires calc I and you are going into web development or something it is okay. But if you are going to be foing any real engineering or development (DSP, Image processing, robotics etc) that class will not help you it is for non stem after all.

Yeah khan academy is okay, but I like the 'classroom' and textbook' setting more.

Yes check out saylor and those free books! Those books are really good. At the end of august I will take the Saylor exam.

Calc is one subject I want to learn and understand. I dont mind taking 1-2 months on it cause I love electronics and in my personal learning I encounter it all the time! So I am finally doubling down and learning it properly.

I may sign up for study again though for their two new UL CS classes...it would look good on my transcript.

@MNomadic Haha no one should fly halfway through a 6 credit hour calculus course in 2 days..says a lot about the rigor and removes the sense of accomplishment from finishing a difficult course.
