No degree to MBA-HR in 20 months - Nodaclu's Progress Thread
Second TEEX class is done. Up to 93 completed units now, and only 9 classes left to finish. Getting that number down to single digits is a huge psychological hurdle now crossed. Smile

I'm attaching a slightly updated spreadsheet for anyone following along, or for those who are looking for the right mix of UL/LL classes to complete a TESU BS Psych degree in 2018.

I switched from Study.com's MAT-97 to TESU's TECEP Liberal Arts Math because (and I'm embarrassed to say this), I was actually struggling with the Study.com class. In looking at the sample questions from the TECEP, it appears to be more aligned with my current math skills, so for better or worse, I'm moving in that direction.

Since that opened up another Study.com class option (I've prepaid for classes through June) I switched History and Systems of Psychology from Coopersmith to Study.com. (I have a meeting with a TESU advisor this week to confirm that all of my remaining classes will transfer in as expected. If anything will NOT, I'll report back here.)

I'd like to also take Research Methods in Psychology at Study.com, but it will come in as LL through them, and that would leave me with 27 UL credits in my overall degree program - one UL class short. So I'll stick with the UExcel option for myself, but for others, know that the LL Study.com course might be an option for you.

I've just registered for the TECEP math exam. I'm not quite sure how it all works, but it "starts" on 4/2/18, so I'm assuming that the syllabus, recommended texts, etc., will be made available to me by that time.

I'm going to attempt to maneuver things so that Ethics in the Social Sciences is the very last course I take. I'll do this in the hope that, by that time, Study.com's version will be approved as a direct equivalent. By my current estimations, I'll have to register for the TESU version no later than August for a December graduation, so fingers crossed that Study.com's gets approved by then!

Otherwise, we're rolling right along.  Big Grin

So here's a fun little tidbit:

My new job's corporate headquarters is in Feasterville-Trevose, PA. TESU is in Trenton, NJ...which is exactly 14.4 miles away. Big Grin

I'll be travelling back there 2-4 times a year as a part of my job.

How cool is that? I'm heading back there in April. I'm going to try and squeeze in some time to check out the campus if possible.

The TECEP guide is available online (https://www2.tesu.edu/tecep.php?CourseCode=MAT-105) click on View Test Description, and you can see what you need.  You can register with ProctorU to take the test any time after the term starts (so on 4/2), but you'll have to schedule 3 days out to not pay the extra fee.  You can take it any time after the term starts.

I have the 8th edition of the textbook, it is truly terrible.  Impossible to study from.  I mean, really bad.  I would be happy to send it to you for the cost of shipping, but really, that would be just to unload it on my end.

I think if you used Khan Academy to study from the study guide instead, you'd be much better off.

Thanks for that! I did poke around Khan Academy last week, and really liked it. I'll see if I can align it with the major areas of study in the syllabus to make sure I'm on solid enough ground to schedule the exam in a few weeks.

Had my advising session yesterday, and confirmed that all of the classes I've chosen will ltransfer in as planned, including surprisingly, COM-120 for the GE Oral Communication Requirement. I asked him to confirm this twice, which he did, though the TESU equivalent he gave (COM-290) doesn't appear to exist in TESU's catalog.

That being said, the course is so delightfully short, that I'm going to complete and submit it anyway, and hope that my conversation with him will hold up if needed.

Okay, so Math (as always) put me a little bit behind, but today I passed it!

I ended up going back to SDC as I was having a ton of trouble with the class, and going through SDC's process was just smoother than trying to navigate my way through the TECEP.

With that one done, I think I can pick my pace back up again. I'm going to try and finish the SDC Ethics in the Social Sciences class over the next week, then submit my SDC transcripts to TESU to see what they do with that class. From there, I'll determine the order of my last 5/6 classes.

I still want to try and finish in time for a December conferral, but it's going to be close - especially while trying to learn a new job that will likely have far more responsibility than I've ever had before.

Okay, back again, and a bit behind again.

(I have a good reason though - I was recruited for a new job, went through the interview process, and got it!! It's a 45% raise over my last position, and is 33% more than I've ever made before.) Part of what got me the job was going back to school at my age. Showed drive and initiative they said.  Big Grin

So SDC's Ethics in the Social Sciences is done, and I'm 80% of the way through SDC's PSY 312 - History and Systems of Psychology. I'll finish it on June 11 (the first day I can take another test in SDC).

That will leave me with (assuming that I can eventually convince TESU to accept SDC's Ethics class - I'm still holding out hope):

PSY 104 - Social Psychology (Lower Level) - Study.com
PSY 325X - Social Psychology (Upper Level) - UExcel
PSY 365X - Research Methods in Psychology - UExcel
LIB 495 - Liberal Arts Capstone - TESU

Getting close now!!

Okay, here's the latest:

1. Confirmed in another thread by two sources: Study.com's SOS-108 Ethics in the Social Sciences, will now transfer in to TESU as SOS-216 (LL), but is credited toward the required Ethics in the Social Sciences course that is required for the Psychology major!! That saves me 12 weeks of time, and over $1,000 in tuition.  Big Grin

2. The quizzes for Psych 312 are done. I'll write the paper over the next few days, and take the final on Saturday.

3. Psych 104 is about 40% done. I'll finish it and take the exam by 6/23.

4. I'll sign up for the Liberal Arts Capstone starting 8/1, as soon as it becomes available.

5. That leaves the two UExcel classes to finish between 6/24 and 10/1. That should be enough time.

December graduation...here I come!!! Big Grin
