The May term for the liberal arts capstone starts on the 30th of this month and I can't help but shake the vague suspicion that I'm not ready for it at all, haha.
I imagine picking a topic ahead of time might typically be a good idea, but it wouldn't be very fun to get started and then have your topic shut down.

You should have a couple of ideas in mind. The first assignment for me was to formulate research questions for three different topics. I did not end up with the topic I initially thought I would. After I tried to come up with the questions, another topic was an obviously better choice. There really isn't that much you can do ahead.

I'm doing the liberal arts capstone now. IMO you should go into it with an idea already selected and a couple of back ups just in case. You can lose alot of time at the start if you aren't sure about what you're going to do it on
Also I would go ahead and start gathering sources for your topic or topics. if you're doing a survey, go ahead and write the questions you're planning to use. They expect a minimum of 15 sources so you might as well get on it

There is one other thing to do. Go ahead and get your New Jersey State Library card. As a TESU student, you get free access, and you'll use it, too.

Could anyone post the first assignment? I think it would be helpful to see what exactly the assignment instructions are when preparing topics so I don't get behind.

One thing you can work ahead on is that if you don't have much experience with APA, get on the Purdue Owl website and start looking at those rules and sample papers. I want to say that a big portion of the grade is based on how well you can use APA formatting. The second biggest part of the grade is how well you follow your instructors directions. Finally, demonstrating the ability to research a topic and the content you create is the last factor.

yes, APA is a big part of it. tbh they care more (it seems to me) about how the paper looks than what's in it
