SL is well-priced per credit, but it is nowhere near the best price bargain per credit, that honor goes to Saylor or Shmoop.
I recently did my own comparison of Shmoop, Saylor, Davar Academy, Straighterline, and Study.com and found that SL is actually one of the most expensive per course unless you complete at least 4 courses per month. At that point, the cost per course is only barely less than Study.com.
At 1 course per month, the order is Saylor @ $25/course, then Davar @ $85/course, then Shmoop @ $87.68, then SL @ $158, and finally Study.com @ $199.
At 2 courses per month, the order is Saylor @ $25/course, then Shmoop @ $43.84/course, then Davar @ $64.50, then Study.com @ $99.50, and finally SL @ $108.50.
At 3 courses per month, the order is Saylor @ $25/course, then Shmoop @ $29.23/course, then Davar @ $71.33, then Study.com @ $89.67, and finally SL @ $92.
At 4 courses per month, the order is Shmoop @ $21.92/course, then Saylor @ $25/course, then Davar @ $74.75, then SL @ $83.75, and finally Study.com @ $84.75.
While I doubt this is an option for most people, but if you can manage to complete 5 or more courses in per month, the order remains the same, but Shmoop just gets better and better. At 6 courses/mo Straighterline will beat out Davar for the #3 slot.
The above assumes you're paying non-discounted rates, baselining $59 courses @ SL, and using the Business Class sub plus RPnow proctoring with Davar (@ $15 per exam). With discounts, obviously this all changes, but aside from the Guardian scholarship from Study.com, it is hard to beat Saylor or Shmoop if you're able to take at least 2 courses per month.
