Yes, at this point. It is expected to go up in July.

Do you not have to take the capstone (did you get the TECEP in before they phased it out)? If not and you have to take the capstone course, why waste your money on a 1ce course when the capstone will give you a GPA anyway?

I took the very last TECEP, on the very last day, a few hours before I would have been ineligible.  Talk about seat of the pants, lol!

I agree, if I didn't take the TECEP, I would have just used the Captstone.

PlotTwist:  I was filling out paper work for Financial Aid, when I *gasp*, discovered that you can't use Financial Aid for any P.L.A courses (as well as graduation fees or Residency Waivers).

So, I will have to find a way to either get my job to pay for it, or, take the Medical Terminology Course.  I wanted to take the most absolutely easiest and fastest thing, but, Medical Terminology shouldn't be too bad, considering that my career is in Health Insurance, lol.  But, the PLA would be nicer!

The PLA-100 course is very, very easy. Here is the open source version (which is exactly the same as the regular course). You can easily get through it in a week, and then just sit back and do the mandatory discussion forum comments for the remaining three weeks. Easy A.

PLA 100 open source: https://sites.google.com/a/courses.tesc....00-public/.

By the way, if anyone does decide to do a PLA, I suggest doing the PLA 100 as open source free, and then just do PLA 200 at TESU. That is all they require to do a PLA.

However, for reference - here is the open source PLA 200, so that you know what you're getting into:

Do you have ANY graded credits from anywhere? If so, you should just combine them into a GPA and claim that rather than spend money or time on this slightly farcical pursuit of a meaningless GPA.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

BTW, what courses are you missing for your BSBA? Which concentration are you going for?

I took Medical Terminology at SL after I failed the TECEP for it, I thought I had passed as I had a 68 or something, but the pass is a 70. But then again, I went at it cold, I wouldn't complain as I knew I would pass it with SL.

It's great that work can pay for this, I would take it if you're missing a credit somewhere or if you really want to get that GPA. As Davewill said, you may want to just lump your previous credits and get a GPA that way.

I thought about that too, but I also have a whole lot of W's and a couple of F's (for failing to withdraw in time) on my Community College Transcript. I didn't want questions to be asked about why I am counting the classes I passed (adding up to a 3.2 gpa), yet not counting the F's. That seems a bit disengenuos. Far more so than just starting over with one class from TESU.

I only need International Business, College Writing 2, Oral Communications, Corporate Communication, and Business Communication. I actually don't "need" the Gen Ed or Free Elective credit that PLA-100 or Medical Terminology would give; just want the gpa Smile

If it was for the BALS and you need the extra credits for free electives, I would choose any of the following. This is going from what I think should be easiest to hardest.

1. PLA 100 - Prior Learning Assessment
2. APS 100 - Medical Terminology
3. ENG 298 - Jane Austen...
4. CHE 128 or PHY 128 - CHEM I or PHY I Lab
5. CHE 129 or PHY 129 - Chem II or PHY II lab, only if you are missing a lab

If you really want that gpa, my pick would be a coin toss between 1 and 2.
Update. Check if you need general Ed’s, free electives or specific areas, PLA course should be Gen ed or free electives.
Medical Terminology is only for free electives

THANK YOU!!!!

Okay, that was weird.....typing on the Mobile site, and my last 3 posts were combined.....I swear I made them separately...hope my responses are readable to you guys!

Are the PLA classes required to PLA or could I just take the open source classes and submit the PLA?

Just an FYI, you personally don't get to calculate your GPA! Schools each calculate their own. W's won't count into it, but F's will. So whatever you've calculated, your company (or whoever) doesn't care. They will look at what the school gives.

Also, a 1cr course will give you a GPA at TESU, but it's worth very little when calculating your overall GPA. So if a school/company wanted your GPA from each source, they would weight each course. So a 1cr course is going to be weighted as 1/3 of a 3cr course. You can't get a bunch of C's in your major, then take a bunch of 1cr PE classes and thing it's going to balance out, because it isn't.

And, finally, you don't get to "start over" with a TESU GPA. As I said, each school calculates their own GPA. So yes, you will have a 4.0 GPA at TESU (assuming you get an A in that 1cr course). BUT, each previous school will have their own GPA calculated, and listed right there on your transcript. So anyone who asks for it will see the entire transcript - courses you took, grades, F's, W's, GPA, etc. And that TESU transcript, with a single 1cr course, and that GPA (which they will be able to see how the GPA was calculated).

You have two options for doing a PLA.

Option 1: At TESU, PLA 100 is not required, but PLA 200 is - cost is 2 credits, plus the cost of submitting a PLA (up to 12 credits in one porfolio for the same cost). Here are the costs - and it depends if you are a TESU student or not. Assuming you are a TESU student, it is the cost of the 2 credit course, plus $399 for 12 credits: https://www.tesu.edu/tuition/pla-tuition.cfm

Option 2: Learningcounts.org allows you to take a self-directed PLA 100-200 course for $149, and then you submit a portfolio for $175. However, you can only do one three credit course per $175. So it can add up, if you do alot of credits. These credits are then transferable to TESU via NCCRS.  I did this option for Aviation Weather, as I needed only that one course for my Aviation degree at TESU, and I didn't want to take the PLA 200 course.   The total cost to me was $350, which included the cost to get the transcript to TESU. However, I am not sure if this option still works, because I couldn't find the individual version of learningcounts anymore. Seems they want you to do it through a college
