Advice For Astronomy DSST
#11
I also really like the Great Courses for studying.
Denise

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun.   Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior.  And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

My daughter and I took/passed Astronomy DSST a year ago, but I understand that it has been changed since then. Some of the notes I passed on to others, plus the ones in the Forum here are for the older test. One would think that much of Astronomy has stayed the same for the last several years, but apparently the information I gave others did not apply to their test. Since there is little in the form of study guides and the Instacert notes aren't applicable, I would move on. I'd find another test and study for that instead. You're right about the scenarios on the test, and that makes it even more difficult to study for.

What about an independent study course like the ones at UIdaho? Environmental Science-Independent Study in Idaho-University of Idaho
CLEP's and DSST's passed: Fund. of Counseling, Tech Writing, Here's to your Health, Intro to Computers, Analyzing and Interpreting Lit, Human Growth and Devel, Intro to Soc., Crim Just, Law Enforcement, Env. and Humanity, Astronomy.
Completed 2 PLA's through LearningCounts.org.
Completed Capstone at TESC.

I failed Astronomy once too. I mastered all the Astronomy free-clep-prep etc prep stuff etc and found that NONE of it is on the DSST exam, names etc, NONE.  I think one question, I might have used what I learned from the vocab sheet, so pissed!.  I went on youtube and found this PBS series Crash Course Astronomy and it is amazing very conceptual and easy to listen to and learn, even on the go.

Free-Clep-Prep isn't bad for some things, I used it for the NAM DSST and killed it.  Just don't waste your time for Astronomy.

You should be able to choose from DSST/CLEP/TECEP Natural Science/Mathematics category to fill the requirement.

Grabbed a few from each vendor - hopefully one will suit your needs:

ALEKS
MAT-115 Intermediate Algebra (RECOMMEND)
MAT-121 College Algebra

CLEP
MAT-102/103-CE College Mathematics (General)
NAS-101/102-CE Natural Sciences (General)

DSST
COS-101-DE Introduction to Computing (RECOMMEND)
ENS-201-DE Environment and Humanity: Race to Save the Planet

TECEP
The Science of Nutrition (BIO-208-TE)
Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics (MAT-105-TE)
College Algebra (MAT-121-TE)

CLEP - College-Level Exam Program
DANTES
Thomas Edison State College: All TECEPÂ Tests

Area D: Understanding the Physical and Natural World no longer allows math - it's natural sciences or computer sciences only.

If I had to take something in this area, it would be a computer course.  The DSST, CLEP and TECEP are all good options.

To keep things on track- ALEKS is no longer a college credit option.
