Easiest Bachelors Degree to test out of? TESC?
#1
Hello,

I have been researching on & off for months about which big 3 school I should look into & what degree plan. I'm starting to go crazy! haha I just need a 4 year degree. Whatever is the easiest to test out of. I would guess that would be some type of liberal arts/general studies degree and from what I've seen & heard, TESU will be the best choice for that. I have an associates from my CC. I have taken Aleks for College Algebra and Ethics from the Institutes so far. I just got the study.com scholarship, so I have to choose 5 classes to take after I finish personal finance. Any suggestions or comments would be a huge help!! THANK YOU!

My personal preference was the BSBA in General Management through TESU. Figure out what courses you need to complete your degree. IMO, I would first leverage Davar Academy to obtain as many credits as you can. Second, I would look at Straighterline's courses to obtain credits there. Thirdly, look into study.com. Fourth, CLEP and DSST exams. Finally, TECEPS through TESU. If I had it to do all over again, this would have been my plan of attack to get as many credit's as possible in the shortest time. However, this is just my opinion...others will have their own.
2017...Finished Bachelor's General Management at TESU.

It's a mix note of BALS and BSBA. It depends on what your associate credits are and what credits are required for each degree. I say it's a coin flip even with the TECEP pricing.
The reason is your BALS has 27 free elective credits that can be anything, plus it has 20 credits of general education electives, choose all the cheapest courses for those.
My suggestion is to list your courses taken into a spreadsheet and paste it in here, if you don't have a spreadsheet, copy/paste everything into this thread for feedback.
While you're waiting, read the Beginners Guide sticky thread or the wiki, you can also view other detailed information on the wiki as well.

That's my suggestion as well. ALEKS for quick math credits, Straighterline for many of the others, Davar/Saylor for anything not available at Straighterline.

Thank you for your suggestions. I struggled through college algebra in Aleks and tried statistics, but gave up. I just don't understand it at all. It seems most degrees want statistics and I'm trying to avoid any more math, because that will be the one thing that will stand in my way of getting a degree. Me n math don't get along.

Also, one more thing. I got an email from TESU a few weeks ago that they will waive the cost of the TES 100 class - Cornerstone Lifelong Learning Strategies if I applied soon. I thought I read somewhere that I don't want to apply until I have all my credits or are close to having all my credits because of semester fees I will be charged, is this correct?

The BALS shouldn't need any more math than algebra.

Yes, some people say that, but I always think that it's best to apply as soon you are ready to commit to the process. It becomes a step on the road to your degree, and it gives you access to advising. You can also have any existing credits evaluated. Seeing your old credits neatly slotted into your academic plan can be a big boost. The application fee is $75, and you have 6 months to become enrolled.

Becoming enrolled requires registering for a course or TECEP. Once you become enrolled, you have a year to either graduate, or take another course or TECEP to continue your enrollment another year. Since there are plenty of useful TECEPs and they don't cost much more than a CLEP, it's not a big deal. Being enrolled locks in your catalog so that degree requirements don't change on you. The new catalog usually comes out in July (meaning you should be enrolled by the June term to get the current catalog).
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

TESU does NOT have semester fees, so there is no harm in applying now, and taking the free cornerstone course to get you enrolled for a year. It won't cost you anything but the $75 application fee.

I would do the BALS, as it's way more flexible than the BSBA, and there is no real benefit any longer after the Business Capstone becomes a course rather than being able to test out of it.

If you do choose the BALS, then Intermediate Algebra is all you need (actually, if you're still paying for ALEKS, go back and get Intermediate Algebra as well if you don't already have it). College Algebra will fill your "Quantitative Analysis requirement." Any other math you do will go in Gen Eds.

My advice if you're going to take 5 free Study.com courses: if you enjoy history, I would take:
HIS 108: History of the Vietnam War (HIS-246)
HIS 308: Causes & Effects of the Vietnam War (HIS-351)
HIS 106: The Civil War & Reconstruction (HIS-252)
HIS 306: The American Civil War Era (HIS-235)
and then use Shmoop to get your UL credits from Literature (you'll need 4 courses)

If you'd rather take Psychology, I would take:
BUS 107: Organizational Behavior (PSY-361)
PSY 104: Social Psychology (PSY-370)
PSY 105: Research Methods in Psychology (PSY-322)
PSY 106: Abnormal Psychology (PSY-350)
PSY 107: Lifespan Developmental Psychology (PSY-211)
PSY 108: Psychology of Adulthood and Aging (PSY-212)

If you're enjoying Study.com, I would continue, and take any of your other Gen Ed requirements there as well. Otherwise, you can switch to SL.

If you post your credits from your CC, I can make a degree plan for you.

Also, I would look into WGU if you're interested in a business degree. With your AA, they will block transfer it to the degree, leaving just the core courses to complete. Then, you can make a degree plan for the remaining courses that are easy to transfer into WGU (ones we know will work). That will leave maybe half of the courses left to complete, and you could probably get that done in 1-2 terms. That means 6mo to a year, and $3000-$6000. If you could do it in a single term, it would be much cheaper than TESU at this point.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

These are all from my CC along with the grade I rec'd and the credit earned.
I finished with an Associates of General Studies not an AA so I don't know how WGU would accept that.
